Our immune system will attack foreign substances that enter the body. Thus, most part of the pTreg cells in small intestine is generated by antigen-induced solid foods.
In fact, early intestinal environment is more inclined to tolerance response, which may because breast milk contains induced component in immune tolerance. After the intake of solid food, small intestine will soon generate a large number of pTreg cells. Breast milk and newly generated pTreg cells should cooperate with each other, to help children enjoy rice and other solid food, in order to avoid food allergy. Research shows that if newborn mice grew up in the absence of pTreg cells, they are more likely to have an allergy to food.
Faced with invading pathogens, immune system cells will call on cell army and peacekeepers. When cell army has cleared the invaders, peacekeeping cells will stop further fight. Actually, these cells are a special class of T cells. They have a lower proliferation and are responsible for the end, to avoid autoimmune reactions and immune responses. This research is expected to help people develop new drugs to treat autoimmune diseases and some cancers.
