    Weird PCR result

This PCR was made with primers that have been working really well before, just a few days ago, giving a single sharp band. But today, instead of a clean band, I got a band followed by a very strong smear... this smear was present in all the samples, including the negatives. My first guess is that the primers went bad.. but this is a new stock recently ordered. What else could it be? bad taq? bad pcr machine?

    thanks!

You have to track back in mind about the addition/ change of any reagent tubes (including dNTPs, Taq, water and rest. As having bands in negative sample means something goes wrong with ur reagents . This may be due to contamination, Easy trick is to prepare all reagents New working stocks.
    best wishes
