Gel mobility shift assay: unusual band shape

In my gel mobility shift assay, the bands corresponding to the DNA-protein bound form are unusually shaped; instead of being regularly shaped like a horseshoe, the complex tends to accumulate around the edges of the well. What might be the reason of this? The protein is known to be a fairly good DNA binder, with a Kd around 25 nM.
    Thank you,
    Marina
