Parallelism of Sequence Similarity Matrix Score

Dear all,

Currently, I'm working on parallelizing the sequence similarity matrix score using Smith-Waterman algorithm for my class project. I really appreciate if anyone has experience in doing this before. I would like to know what is the suitable programming language for this project as I'm thinking to parallelizing the matrix score using MPI.
