Immunizing antigen

During the course of an immune response there is often an increase in the affinity of the antibodies produced with respect to the immunizing antigen.
(a) what is the term used to describe this phenomenon? (b) Breifly describe the process that leads to the production of antibodies of increased affinity during an immune response.
