Who can tell me whether Effectene transfection reagent is a good kit for transfection or not?

Our experience is (1) GenCarrier, (2) lipofectamine2000, (3) Fugene-6.....based on efficiency, cost and protocol. Qiagen's always is the most expensive but not necessarily the best.

I like GenCarrier over Effectene. It is cheap, consistent, reliable and high-efficiency at least in my hands (on 293, COS-7 and primary keratinocytes).

The best way for cell transfection is electroporation in some hypotonic buffer. The cells are not in contact with any toxic reagent, which may influence the output of your experiments. Instead, they recover very fast and start to express the protein as soon as 24 h posttransfection. We do routinely nucleofection with GTporator solution at fraction of Amaxa's price.
