solubilization of hydrophobic protein

Dear all,
Can anyone suggests a way to solubilize hydrophobic membrane protein for better resolution in a SDS-PAGE? Is 8M Urea a good choice? What's downside of using 8M Urea in the loading buffer? Thanks a lot.

Yes high denaturing 8M urea will help. You can also try silver stain if you have problem to see the band. Repeat colloidal coomassie G-250 staining can achieve similar sensitivity with lower background. Good luck!
