Quantifying Western Blots

In the past, I have used a CCD camera set-up to obtain western blot images and then processed and quantified the data (IDV) using Scion Image. However the CCD system is not currently available to our lab. I know the systems can be quite expensive, so I need another way to capture the image for data analysis. Is simply scanning the image okay? Or do I need to use a camera? I would be grateful for any help. Thanks! -pat

If you want to quantify the bands the scanning densitometer is most suitable for the purpose. The linear scanner is less precise and isn't suitable for quantification, in my opionion.
