    spacer in two-hybrid fusion

    Hello!
I got a problem with two-hybrid: it doesn't show interaction which surely exists. I suspect that the reason is large size of reporter protein (fused with studied protein) - it's 1067 aa residues, 170 kDa - which creates steric hindrance for interaction. So I gonna insert a spacer between reporter and studied protein to overcome this hindrance. The question is: is it a common thing to use such spacer, do people really use it (I mean I don't wonna problems with reviewers later :)) - may be somebody could give me links to publications where such things were done?
And what can be used as such spacer?
    Thank you very much!
