Cell synchronization protocol

Cell synchronization protocol

Detailed PDF protocol link to LabVelocity.com. Source from BioSource International.

In order to study many of the control mechanisms involved in cell cycle regulation,
it is critical to synchronize the cells so that the distinct phases of the cycle are being
studied. Synchronizing cells allows the precise study of regulatory mechanisms
which determine cell cycle regulation at the level of gene expression and protein
phosphorylation, facilitating drug discovery.
To synchronize cells, several methods are used. Commonly, researchers induce cells
to quiescence by serum starvation before releasing them from this state, or treat cells
with chemical inhibitors which arrest cells in distinct phases of the cycle. The following
is a brief summary of these methods
