Protein electrophoresis

Protein electrophoresis

Protein electrophoresis overview

1. SDS-PAGE electrophoresis: use to determine the molecular weight of proteins.

Measuring Molecular Weight with SDS-PAGE (LogMW versus the relative mobility)

2. Native PAGE electrophoresis: use to isolate biological active proteins for enzyme activity or other biological activity measurement. Native gel will not denature proteins or reduce sulfhydryl groups of protein complex.
3. Isoelectric focusing gel electrophoresis (IEF): use IEF electrophoresis to determine the isoelectric point (pI) of your protein.
Two IEF gels: carrier ampholytes gels and immobilized pH gradient gels (IPG gels).
4. Two-dimensional (2-D) gel electrophoresis: Use for proteomics separation of proteins.
