Gene copy number amplifications and deletions are common characteristics of many cancers and identifying these genetic gains and losses provides useful information about the genesis of specific diseases. It is only in the last decade, however, that high-throughput systems have been developed to screen cancerous cells for genome-wide analysis of copy number gains or losses.
