| Used this book for the physiology portion of my second year GI module. Just the right amount of depth. Fairly easy to read. I recommend for first/second year usage or for board review.
I read this book before ever taking a class on GI physiology (though I have a background in other aspects of physiology and biochemistry), and I was hooked from the first chapter. I was able to understand it as if I was reading Harry Potter. A year later I read it again for fun as a bedtime treat. It is tremendously well organized, each chapter is logically set up so that it is easy to think back over the material to yourself and review it without the book in front of you. She explores the molecular mechanisms of action for many aspects of the GI system in good detail, and each chapter includes clinical corelates that are so perfectly related to the info you just learned that you can predict the etiology and the treatment from the symptoms. | While this text is very detailed, it does not seem to be organized well in my opinion. Information on topics were scattered through out the chapters. I also found the index to be incomplete and not helpful at all.
Great reference item. the book is well written and easy to follow. Highly recommended.
This book was required reading in my graduate program and I am thrilled that it was! I have worked in both acute care as well as school settings and have found this book to be extremely helpful from both ends of the spectrum. An absolutely fantastic desk reference, especially in the acute care setting! |

| This is the absolute worst experience I've ever had at ordering anything on-line! I ordered my book on Jan 3rd it is now Feb 1st and I still have not received my book and I'm done with my third week of school. I've also been given the run around several times, computer was broken, put wrong address and it came back, etc.....
Very BAD writings, It's very hard to understand for those non-biology majored readers. You can read thousand times and still have no idea! Negative six-star rating!!!
This book was in excellent condition and it came with the cd. It wasn't expensive and I really loved the fact that my book was here within one week. |

| I found this book to be well-written and to the point for every topic in anatomy and physiology. It was totally complete, showing the structure and function of every system in the body. I studied this book and the following for my college anatomy and physiology classes: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi
Vol 1(ISBN: 0971999619) and Vol 2 (ISBN: 0971999627)
This books really helped out for test preparation. They showed the various questions that were similar to my actual exam questions. I highly recommend these 3 books.
The book is organized by organ system, and each chapter is full of well explained illustration. To use the book, not much knowledge of chemistry is needed (just a bit of acid/base chem, freshman year) and elementary cell biology. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants an elementary, easy to follow introduction to anatomy and physiology for self-study. |

| I think this is my favorite textbook. It is clear, concise, and very easy to use. The index and the glossary are combined so that when you look up a word you get the definition and where to find out more about it in the text. The DVD that comes with it is also very good. |

By: Gerard J. Tortora ISBN: 0471689351 Publisher: Wiley Release Date: 15 June, 2005 Bioscience book rank: 157199
| Excellent resource for a very hard subject. Written well. It really helps you to be prepared for exams. If you are a serious student you don't want to miss this study guide. Buy it used and save!
There are a few comments I have...first, I find the workbook very helpful in understanding each chapter of the text. I use it every week and it helped me get an A in Anatomy I. If you read the text then do all the related pages in the workbook, your grade will show it. Trust me. That said, the book is riddled with errors and typos to be on the lookout for. The nerve chapters were the worst. It seemed as if the further the proofreader got into the book, the worse the errors became. Wrong answers can be found in places and some answers are given vs. a fill-choice, for example. It's odd, I know. It's not too much to expect near perfection in this type of item, I think, given the subject matter. Still, I think it is a valuable addition to the text. I would give it 5 stars but all the typos are too much to overlook. I should note that I don't think Tortora is the author, I think it is another person who is listed on the bottom of the cover, but this is based on the Tortora text.
I ordered this book for school. Haven't used it much. |

| Thorough, clear, great figures/diagrams. I've used this textbook for 2 classes and refer to it periodically when I have questions about health and the body's workings. Gives a good overview of topics, as well as useful details.
This text covers the material well yet is easy to read. It is well organized and the drawings/pictures are beautiful. I am enjoying learning a difficult topic !
I use it to study before my exams... great for reviewing the material... great summaries of each chapter and exam type review questions |

| The study guide is great to work through. I saved it to use the weekend before the exam so I knew what to focus on.
I studied for weeks using this book and the companion book by Martini. When the time came to take my Excelsior Exam, I failed it. The multiple choice questions here are designed to make you believe you'll do o.k. when you take the actual test. I went into the exam feeling confident and knew within no time that I had been misled! The Excelsior test itself is 10X more difficult and focuses primarily on cytology and histology. This is a lousy study guide if you're taking the Excelsior exam.
I agree with the first comment. Many of the review answers are JUST PLAIN WRONG! Don't waste your money. Actually, I didn't even like the textbook. Neither are user friendly. |
