| This is an excellent book overall. The first chapter is an overview of basic MR, the second chapter vascular MR, and the third chapter cardiac MR. The author has a very clear thought process which makes MR easily understandable, in contrast to other MR books which get bogged down in minutiae and heavy physics. Dr. Lee's efficient layman style prose also helps make learning MR more intuitive. I highly recommend this book. The first chapter is excellent for MR in general, even if cardiac imaging is not your main interest. |

| This book is a continuation of the theme of Heinberg's earlier books on peak oil - "The Party's Over", and "Powerdown". A big difference however, is the air of optimism the book has compared to the doomsday tone of the previous two. Not that we are not facing serious times and soon (he documents very well how petroleum dominates all of modern society), this book presents a plan to deal with it beyond the unrealistic rescue scenarios such as oil sands, wind-for-all, and the notion that Sun can supply 5,000 times the energy we need, etc. The idea that nations will control and also decrease their use of oil through international agreements seems at first blush preposterous. However, in chapter 3 he shows how a depletion protocol can mesh with a Kyoto -type protocol for decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. The result is as two-fer; adjusting to decreasing supplies of petroleum while at the same time decreasing emissions through an international treaty. The fact that the U.S. has not agreed to Kyoto does not mean it is dead in the water; well over 100 nations are on board. Coordination of a depletion treaty with an emissions treaty makes solid sense and is I hope, inevitable.
This book gives a good overview of peak oil. It's main thrust is the assumption that economics will not carry us through this turmoil, and only an early adoption of a "protocol" will save human from much crisis.
The logic behind this assumption is still lost on me, and I continue to seek a clearer picture of the future.
Of the many books now available that review peak oil, Richard Heinberg's "The Oil Depletion Protocol" is unique in that it outlines a practical solution to survival the upcoming energy crunch.

After reading a few books about the upcoming energy collapse, read this book to energize yourself with hopeful solutions. We should all read this book, think deeply, and get to work soon. |

| This small paperbound book provides a basic overview of several spinal, extremity, and general health conditions in a self-described "at-a-glance" format. Each section includes information regarding definition, etiology, principle symptoms, exam findings, lab & radiographic findings, and management guidelines. The book does provide some helpful information, but in most cases lacks appropriate detail. Clinicians looking for a text that provides detailed etiologic, diagnostic, and management data will not be adequately informed by this text. Frankly, a few chapters are quite helpful. For example, the chapters (2) dealing with fibromyalgia are some of the best I've yet read on this condition, providing important and clinically useful descriptions of the condition and (most importantly) a detailed list and description of other conditions which need to be considered during patient work-up. But most sections are insufficiently detailed for proper diagnosis and management -- the data in these chapters is introductory at best. Chapters on scoliosis, adhesive capsulitis, ligamentous injuries of the knee, cervical soft tissue injuries, etc., do not thoroughly cover these subjects. What IS provided in most chapters is an overview -- helpful perhaps for someone already versed in the details of these conditions, but inadequate as a primary guide. Neither would this book provide adequate preparatory material for a challenging (such as an oral) board exam. In my professional opinion, this book makes some good contributions, but does not replace more detailed reference texts.
This book will be beneficial to any chiropractic practice. It offers a very good overview of common conditions encountered in chiropractic practice. The layout is orderly and to the point. Especially helpful are the nutritional protocols. I highly recommend this to practitioners and students.
I used this to study for my Part II, Part III and Part IV Boards as a reference to quick facts and treatment protocols. The condition was explained with specifity and then giving treatment protocol like adjustments, vitamin supplements and specific exercises. If you want to know how the boards will you ask you questions, get the following:
National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers isbn; 0974328731
National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations isbn; 09784328723
National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers Vol 1 and Vol 2
These study guides were so on target with the type of questions asked on the boards. My friends and I used these books for the boards and helped us pass. I recommend also Yochum's on x-rays for x-ray review. Get these books, worth the money. |

| IP SANs is still a good reference on IP storage protocols and applications. The description of iSCSI and other protocols is still current, although evidently this book was written before final standardization by the IETF. This book is primarily about IP SANs, not Fibre Channel. For more current information on Fibre Channel technology, I found Clark's Designing Storage Area Networks Second Edition to be a useful and objective reference.
First off, Tom Clark's "Designing Storage Area Networks" is one of my favorite FC books. Its thorough and gives you a solid understanding of FC. Even with all the recent updates in FC, its still a good reference book.
But this book is already out of date. Most of the comparisons made between FC and IP are inaccurate (no mention of 2 Gb FC, necessity of IP HBAs) or avoid serious corporate considerations like technology availability, maturity, and cost. I hate to say it, but large portions of this book read like a product brochure (Mr. Clark is Director of Tech Marketing for Nishan Systems and he plugs them & iFCP often). If you're looking to understand IP SANs and where they will fit in your environment, This isn't it. An update may help, but it would probably be better if this book got to the brass tacks of IP SANs and avoided FC comparisons. One last point: backups aren't low priority (streaming media doesn't like intermittent data flow & data protection is high priority).
Clear explanation about the RAID, SCSI, FC and IP relations. Very good book. I found it very helpful. |

| I am using this book for an undergraduate level course that I am teaching. This book was an extremely pleasant surprise. The language is clear, the organization is fantastic and the overall presentation makes this extremely dense text easy to read and understand.
This is a truly masterpiece about computer networks. Despite its title "for network design", the authors not only cover network design aspects, but also provide a very solid reference about many important topics in computer networks, including:

1) Transport networks (SONET, and optical networks).
2) LAN, WAN technologies and routing protocols.
3) QoS including MPLS.
4) Network devices and interconnections...and many more.

The book is very well organized, with very useful tips and highlights about key words and topics included in each section. Lots of useful diagrams and graphics, and pretty much space (1000+ pages) to cover almost every detail.

I personally recommend this title as a textbook for an in depth two-semester course in computer networks, though it is flexible enough to fit courses of different length and duration, both for undergraudates or graduates. It may also be a solid bookshelf reference for computer networks professionals.

Pay attention to the acommpanion site (very simple look, lots of useful graphics and complementary material). |
