| Langdon's book is an important addition to the literature on Genetic Programming. After a thorough survey of the state of the art in the field, he describes how Genetic Programming can be used to generate the standard data structures that humans rely on so heavily. He then describes how these data structures can be used to extend the power of Genetic Programming, and gives a number of useful examples. In all, an important part of any GP library.
The book "Genetic Programming + Data Structures = Automatic Programming!" by William B. Langdon is a very nice introduction to the field of genetic programming. The book is well structured. It contains most, if not all, references to important previous work on GP, and further extends the range of applicability of GP by investigating the use abstract data structures in evolving genetic programs. Routines to manage abstract data structures (stacks, queues, and list) are evolved by GP. The book also shows some problems where enriching the GP-language with primitives to manage a data structure enables it to solve more complex problems.<p>Cees H.M. van Kemenade. |

| I dont think this book is supposed to be a full-fledged textbooks. It reads like a very concise textbook, yet is the size of your average High-Yield or BRS book. In fact, this a great reference to brush up or learn, with moderate depth every major part of medical genetics. I really enjoyed reading this. Its quite up to date... I wish this author would write a bigger version!
doesn't contain very much depth. i recommend consulting a more detailed genetics book.
Medical Genetics For the Modern Clinician by Judith Westman is a small concise summary of Genetics. It's 200 pgs are packed with information including plenty of clinical cases. Definitely for someone already with a basic knowledge of Genetics. End of chapter multiple choice questions help to study for the boards. For a introduction to Genetics or detail on certain conditions another Genetics book should be consulted. |

| Although this book is a bit pricey it is well worth the money. It has wonderful introductory sections that address all aspects of basic developmental biology including a description of development of specific organs, signaling pathways, and relevant molecular processes. By describing how these processes can go awry as a consequence of gene mutation it manages to make clear why an understanding of developmental biology has direct impact on biomedicine. It is densely packed with important information and makes an excellent reference manual. My graduate students loved it! |
