| This is a single-volume book with concise information. You can carry it to discussion session, AP conferences, and nearly alway find your quick references. It is given in bullets-like format, up to the point. It probably needs update on molecular and immunhistochemistry part. And it is better to have color pictures, instead of black-and-white photos.
I purchased this book at the tail end of my first year and wish I had gotten it sooner. It is an awesome quick reference for conferences and sign-out. The descriptions of what to look for in a particular lesion are great. The differential diagnoses are a touch incomplete. However, for the differentials listed, an explanation of why the lesions are different is given. Another bonus is the fact that special stains are included for each lesion (my personal favorite). The book could be a bit more organized, but I think this will come with age. Overall I thinks it's a great book and a good buy (bordering on must buy) for the lost confused eyes of a first year resident.
A direct quote (p. 866): Clinically, melanomas occuring on the sun-damaged skin of the face and presenting as large irregularly pigmented patches have been referred to as lentigo maligna melanoma.<br>Does the author know what she is writing about?<br>Other sections are better. E.g. I quite liked the GI tract. Nevertheless, this book, in its present shape, is a pseudo-help for residents. With so many excellent textbooks available, what is the use of a less than average one? |

| An excellent resource to forensic pathology. I would recommend you have some reference of medicine, however, before reading it. It's difficult to understand some of the terminology if you're picking up the book and reading without prior knowledge.
MISSING INFORMATION IN THE BOOK ABOUT SHOTGUN WOUNDS, AUTOPSY PROCEDURE,BLOOD SPOTS ETC.
If your idea of forensics is CSI on television, this book is not for you. If you are studying forensic science, or need an excellent reference book, by all means - buy it. This book gives one a strong foundation, and the photographs are an excellent source of information, of which to look at after reading the descriptions.
<br />
<br />The second edition is a definite improvment over the first.If you are looking for a chapter on gunshot wounds, it is not here. However, DiMaio has written the standard on evaluating gunshot wounds: Gunshot Wounds: Practical Aspects of Firearms, Ballistics, and Forensic Techniques. |

| This book is a wonderful review of surgical pathology. The questions are extremely high quality. It is obvious much time was spent in their construction. The answer explanations are lucid, complete, and consise. You really do not need to own Sternberg's in order to benefit from this book. It is also a great companion to Rosai, the WHO books, or AFIP fascicles. These days it is really impossible to know everything in pathology which can be very frustrating. With this book, however, it has actually been entertaining to study for the surgical pathololgy portion of the boards. If you are a pathology resident, I highly recommend getting this book. I only wish it was available when I was a first year. |

| Don't let this book's small size fool you...it is very well organized with excellent text, tables and images. There are very few times recently that I've needed more information than was available here. I've been critical of some books within this series, but this is one is highly recommended.
it's a great book for a young resident/assistent in pathology with an interest in haematopathology. Clear writing, nice pictures and tabels. It is my first haematopathology book, but certainly not my last!
Quality books on hematopathology that are of practical use for the daily working pathologist are few.Many are out of date or print. The WHO book which is out of print for some time was of some help for many of us. I find this new title in hematopathology an excellent replacement in this field that many pathologist would like to have on their shelves. I hope it will be kept uptodate. |
