 | | By: Jack P. Holman ISBN: 0072406550 Publisher: McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math Release Date: 10 October, 2001 Bioscience book rank: 136558
| The Good:
<br />- A nice amout of examples.
<br />- Whatever is explained is explained pretty well.
<br />- Friendly style of writing.
<br />The Bad:
<br />- No solution manual.
<br />- Some mistakes in the solved examples.
<br />The Worst:
<br />- There is no focus on the heat transfer sceince itself - the equations are "dumped" on you with no explanations/development or even some example experiments that were made to get to the equations. The focus is on application of the equations to engineering problems and methods of solving differential equations.
<br />
<br />The bottom line:
<br />This book will not give you an understanding of the heat transfer science, but the ability to solve heat transfer problems. If that's what you look for - this is your book. Otherwise, look for something else.
This book is a winner . Forget about any other substitute . In this detailed text you will find all you want about every ine of the multiple equations about the heat transfer , clearly and powerful illustrated . The level of the problems are gradually increased so when you decide to solve them you will become in a real gladiator in this topic .
<br />I recommend it deeply . Since I acquired it I noticed the little difference that makes the great difference . This is a heavyweight text and hardly you will find out another better than this .
<br />A must for Chemical , Mechanical and Industrial engineers!
In Holman's (the author) spirit I'll keep this simple. This text (along with Moran/Shapiro's introductory text in thermodynamics) is among the best textbooks met during the course of a civil, aerospace or mechanical enginnering study. The language used constitutes what should be an "industrial standard" for engineering textbooks. It keeps the level of attention peaking by avoiding loose talk and wordy explanations where this is not required. This is (academic) litterature in its truest sense. I own about 50 science/engineering texts within fluid mechanics, solid mechanics/dynamics, mathematics, physics and more. Among these, this book is top three - no small feat. |

| I love the Memories of a Lifetime books! This is my 6th M of L book. The color, detail, and subject matter is wonderful. The books are a great investment, especially if you do any computer graphic /newsletter /scrapbooking.

| Transferring to a new college can be a daunting and frustrating task. In this lucid and up-to-date book, Professor Eric Freedman makes this process as efficient as possible. It is a valuable resource for every student who is transferring to a new college, or who is thinking of doing so.
If you currently attend a community college hoping to attend your state university, and know very little about the college admissions process, this is the book for you! If you are like me, looking at elite colleges and knowing the way the system works fairly well, this book is a waste of time. It is written at about a 4th grade level, making it so I could get through the entire book in about an hour. In addition, it only provided the basics, and left me with no new insights. There is far better information on the web, I am sorry I wasted my 10 bucks! |

| A superb collection of essays about literally every angle of contemporary giving -- and the expert views are presented w/ detail, verve, and literate assessments of the problems and challenges. Readable, and an eye-opener on a range of perspectives from religion, and women's wealth, to science and technology --often with historical briefs to put the current and prospective trends into deeper context. |

| Raising Money Through Bequests is a very fast, easy read but so informative. It is a step by step approach to raising funds through bequests. I wish I would have had this book 18 years ago when I started development work. I have used some of these steps and will continue to use this as a guide for our ongoing quest in this area of fundraising.
Our group is Guardian Angel Basset Rescue, one of the largest purebred dog rescues in the Midwest. We have been in existence for 11 years and have been able to raise necessary operating expenses over that time. Now we are building for the future.
<br />
<br />I needed a road map for our next step - "Raising Money..." came along at exactly the right time. It's a very easy read but a powerful read at the same time. Simply put, I cannot recommend the book enough.
<br />
<br />It has started us down the road that we now need to follow. I can't wait to see the implimentation of these concepts with our successful group.
A wonderful A to Z primer on how to use this remarkable tool to our organization's advantage, Mr. Valinsky and Ms. Boyd use short snippets of real world experience and humor to make their points. I especially felt that I could hit the ground running with their common sense approach, plus their easy-to-use templates. I was impressed with the emphasis on cultivating and maintaining relationships in order to succeed in this area. Too often the mechanics are hit hard, while overlooking the importance of seeing the potential donor as a human being with feelings and concerns. Simple maxims such as effective listening pervaded this book through. I highly recommend this book to any organization planning a fundraising effort. |

| With 36 pages of iron-on transfers to embroider, you will need to put your thinking cap on so you can come up with great design combinations of your own. Then put them on things like clothing, linens, hats or handbags. When you run out of things to use them on, think again! Only this time think appliqué, wood burning or fabric paint! The ideas are endless.
<br />
<br />Embroidery thread now comes in so many types from the "regular" thread to metallics, jewels, antique pearlescent, fluorescent and don't forget "glow in the dark". You will have so many ways to use these transfers that you may not know where to begin.
<br />
<br />The first two pages are general instructions on the basic transfer of the patterns to making sure you have all the supplies you need to begin. The next pages shows seven embroidery stitches with graphics if you don't know how to do them or if you need to refresh your memory. There is a six-page gallery of projects that have been created using the transfers in 200+ FUN AND FUNKY EMBROIDERY DESIGNS.
<br />
<br />The transfers themselves range from cats, birds, insects, borders, hearts, flowers, Southwest, seasonal, welcome signs and a whole array of fonts. Combine several or use them alone. Outline or fill them in. Do them in a single color or their actual colors.
<br />
<br />The possibilities are never-ending. Grab a hoop and just begin! |

| I refer to this book as my CFD bible. I first used this book approximately 19 years ago as part of a two semester course in CFD. Since that time, I have refered to this book often.
<br />
<br />The authors treatment of the subject aids in the understanding of the subject. Their building block approach tends to lead the reader from simple examples to more complex problems. Their treatment of both Euler and Navier-Stokes equations and their solution has been a great benifit in my work. Their explinations of potential theory and it's use as a CFD tool have been responsible for many hours save on development and coding of computational tools to analyze aerodynamic shapes.
<br />
<br />I am so thankful for the text I currently have that I plan to pick up a second text just to have the updated material.
The book is one of best books in Computational Fluid Mechanics And Heat Transfer area I have read. It not only covers basic knowledge but also talk a lot about advanced technique about CFD. It is very helpful for students just like me. After I bought this book by using a discount from coupons-center.com, I have used the book for one year. I also found CFD code is very helpful. If you are beginner to CFD coding or want to some free code as reference, this book has many good code examples. you can learn from the code examples and then can easily make your CFD code.
I learnt CFD on this book. Definitively I give it 5 star, unfortunately I can't give it 6. It covers all the CFD from the beginning to the advance level. You will use it as an undergraduate, graduate, PhD, post doctorate researcher. No kidding. There are some codes, the book contains all the information you need, it is easy to read, never criptic like many others. I suggest you to buy this book without any esitation if you are really wanting to learn and do CFD. There are more specific books on some arguments, say, turbulence, but none is more comprehensive and well written like this one. |
