Colletotrichum: Host Specificity, Pathology, and Host-Pathogen Interaction by: Pathology, and Host-Pathogen Interaction of Colletotrichum (1998 : Jerusalem) International Workshop on Host Specificity publisher: Amer Phytopathological Society, published: 2000-10-15 ISBN: 0890542589 sales rank: 1373739
Product Description
Summarizing the research of leading scientists, this book focuses on the genus Colletotrichum and the development of Colletotrichum species epidemics worldwide.Use the information contained in this volume to develop control strategies for Colletotrichum disease epidemics and to understand Colletotrichum problems in the areas of biology, pathology, and control.Colletotrichum Host Specificity, Pathology, and Host-Pathogen Interaction features research emphasizing sub-specific variation, host range, genetics and quantitative epidemiology among various plants, including fruit and vegetable crops. As epidemics of Colletotrichum species are appearing worldwide, this publication will serve plant scientists, educators, students, extension agents, agriculture professionals, libraries, scientific diagnostitions, and government agencies worldwide.
This problem-based guide illustrates key reasoning processes that physicians use to resolve individual clinical problems through the use of electron microscopy. Its format will facilitate learning the case approach for diagnostic ultrastructural pathology using clinical-ultrastructural-pathogenic correlation. A total of 51 cases and a procedural guide for the ultrastructural pathology laboratory are included. The cases were selected according to one of the following four principles: 1) classic cases that were diagnosed readily by light microscopy to facilitate the electron microscopic diagnosis of less "classic" cases; 2) diagnostic cases, those cases for which ultrastructural analysis was essential for the diagnosis; 3) supportive cases, which are those cases where either the light or the electron microscopic diagnosis is supportive and confirmatory to the other; and 4) new facts cases, which are those that establish new knowledge regarding the pathogenesis of disease using electron microscopy as the investigative modality. The 51 cases are grouped anatomically in eight major categories. Separate indices for presenting symptoms, differential diagnostic groups, ultrastructural pathology criteria, and final diagnostic categories are provided, as well. This guide will be useful to physicians and students of medicine, structure, and disease. It also makes an ideal operational guide and text for support staff training.
Especially created for busy medical transcriptionists and other medical language specialists, this CD-ROM is the most comprehensive and authoritative reference of common and hard-to-find terms in pathology and laboratory medicine. It contains more than 100,000 entries in areas including clinical pathology, anatomical pathology, hematology, medical technology, blood banking, clinical chemistry, histology, bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, and bioterrorism. Expanded and updated appendix sections include culture media, laboratory tests, stains and dyes, laboratory reference range values, common terms by procedure, commonly dictated lab series, sample reports, and more for added breadth and depth to terms, context, and usage. Handbook of Placental Pathology by: Ona Marie Faye-Petersen, Debra S. Heller, Vijay V. Joshi publisher: Informa HealthCare, published: 2004-05-15 ISBN: 1842142321 sales rank: 1455016
Product Description
A user-friendly text, this book explores all the diagnostic challenges pathologists and obstetricians will face. Succinct and accessible, the text includes discussions of lesions associated with maternal thrombophilias, updates in disorders with challenging clinicopathologic features and pathogenesis. The new edition contains updated sections on conditions such as preeclampsia and maternal diabetes mellitus, covers the use of technology such as molecular genetic probes and other newly developed ancillary studies to confirm diagnosis in problematic cases, and includes illustrations of umbilical cord, membranes, parenchymal and maternal surface abnormalities.
This anthology traces the fascinating progress from plant pathology to biotechnology through 38 scientific papers on Agrobacterium, published over the past century. Included are the seminal scientific papers on the biology and application of Agrobacterium with introductory commentaries mostly by those involved in the original work. The commentaries give background to the papers and explain the problems faced and the techniques used, providing insight into the way fundamental research progresses. Agrobacterium tumefaciens: From Plant Pathology to Biotechnology is divided into five sections. The first section begins with 1904 when Erwin F. Smith began detailed work on crown gall and considered it to be a plant pathological problem. It explores many of the biological discoveries made over the past century, including the pivotal moment when Armin C. Braun discovered that crown gall was a plant cancer. Other papers cover the beginnings of T-DNA research and the development of vectors to improve the process of transferring T-DNA from bacterium to plant cell. The second section delves further into vector systems and genetic coding for disease and insect resistance, exploring the evolution of genetic engineering in crops. The final three sections deal with themes developed from crown gall studies, including "quorum sensing" or population density, the DNA sequencing of one strain of A. tumefaciens, and the first genetically engineered organism, strain K1026, released for commercial use. Students, professors, plant pathologists, microbiologists, or anyone interested in research and/or the history of plant pathology and biotechnology, will find this collection of papers an intriguing read. From the Preface: "?the journey is not over. As the commentary by Paul Hooykaas indicates, it looks as though T-DNA will insert into any cell, be it plant, fungal or even mammalian. Is there a possibility of using Agro¬bacterium in gene therapy? Will Agrobacterium prove to be as useful a tool in fungal genetics as it has been in plant genetics? Its potential is mind-boggling."
This is a reference work on the pathology of common and rare infectious diseases. Coverage includes newly recognized entities, infections seen in AIDS patients, rare opportunistic infections, infections endemic to specific geographic regions and fungal and parasitic infections not covered in standard texts. Emphasis is given to key issues of pathogenesis, especially to microbial diversity and mutability and to the multiple inborn, acquired and iatrogenic host factos that alter human responses to infection. There are references to current literature and listings of diagnostic procedures as well as microbilogic, immunodiagnostic or genomic markers for all diseases.

Outlines in Pathology by: John H., M.D. Sinard publisher: W.B. Saunders Company, published: 1996-02 ISBN: 0721663419 sales rank: 1243949
Product Description
Yale University, New Haven, CT. Reviews in outline format of the major (and many minor) non-neoplastic and neoplastic disease processes. Includes relevant anatomy, embryology, cell biology, and physiology. For residents. Includes syndromes and bodies appendix. DNLM: Pathology outlines.
Review This book seems to closely follow Ackerman's Surgical Pathology by Rosai, and it does a an admittedly good job of condensing the material down as much as possible. It very much appears that the author has published his personal notes from his studying for the AP boards. I really don't know how helpful this would be to someone else. The material is very dense (as many outlines of technical information must be), and you probably can go back and read your highlights of Rosai in the same time it would take to try to comprehend the material from this outline. The one exception is the appendix on Syndromes and Bodies that I thought was unique. Everyone studies differently, and there are many surgical pathology study aids out there. This one wasn't nearly as useful to me as the Pathology Pearls of Wisdom or "Osler" notes.
This book is a concise summary of the features of almost all pathologic entities. The first 35 pages deal with clinical pathology and basic science, summarizing in this short space what Robbins takes 600 pages to explain. The remainder of the text is devoted to anatomic pathology (including hematopathology) and is a great reference next to the microscope. The only problem is that there are no pictures.
