| I purchased this book searching for another anatomy book to add to my collection, but was disappointed to find that it is about 90% physiology. I feel it is incorrectly titled as an anatomy book, but seems to be very thorough in physiology. This book will appeal more to those studying for an in-depth equine science or veterinary degree, and not for an equine artist or layperson just interested in furthering their knowledge of equine anatomy. |

| This is a great source for anatomy and physiology class. It helped me to focus on what was important and made anatomy and physiology easier to understand. For example, the nervous system chapter in this book is outstanding making it much easier to understand then major textbooks. I used this book along with Leonardi's other A and P study guides and it helped me greatly. It also showed me what was important and not important for my college exams. |

| This book is clearly written in a user-freindly manner. You won't feel that it is over your head. I found it a interesting and useful lab manual. |

| I used this as a basic text for anatomy/physiology in my massage therapy school. I found quite a few errors throughout the text, but overall, it was a simple to read and understand textbook. I felt that the text went into much more detail than was necessary on some aspects and not nearly enough on others. I will probably use this again until I find something that is more in tune with what a good massage therapy A&P text should be, maybe write one myself. The overlays in the back were a good idea as were the self exams although many of the answers were incorrect. Probably one of the strongest aspects of this book are the illustrations. They are certainly not of Netter's quality but not bad.
This book is a disappointment. I've read through half of the first section and been dismayed to find approximately one to two grammer and/or spelling mistakes per page, on average. I've also come across at least one flat-out factual inaccuracy and found my jaw gaping at the oversimpification of the science. Simplification is one thing, simplification to the point of being misleading is another thing. So far I've found this book to be written at a sixth to seventh grade level. This is insulting. That said, I'm sure there is good information in this book; however, if I find myself in unfamiliar territory I don't think I'll be able to trust it based on what I've seen so far. So, bottom line: beware. If you have a poor or nonexistent science background this book might be just the thing. If you've always been a science buff, skip it. If you do buy, just remember that you shouldn't believe everything you read. Good luck.
The Massage Connection: Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology is a complete introduction and survey to massage that is completely reader friendly and features objectives, test questions, case studies, pathology relevant to topics, and simplified, clear diagrams. The Massage Connection is enhanced with photographs with overlays for learning surface anatomy, location of muscles and fiber directions. It also features current information about pain, neoplasia, inflammation, healing, aging, and stress as they pertain to massage. This coilbound reference book is highly recommended for students of massage and a very useful reference for even the most experienced massage practitioner. Also highly recommended is VanPub Books' Interactive Pathology For Massage Therapists a book/cd-rom set which deals with over 400 diseases and provides everything a masseuse should know about infection prevention, safe practice, and much, much more. |

| Easy to read, easy to understand, easy to follow. 3 main aspects of this wonderfull book yet very rich in its contents. My appreciation goes to the fact that Gary Matthews is able to turn deep information about nerves and muscle cells in a way that we feel a pHD. about the subject. Very clever the way he starts every chapter making us feel we already knew all that stuff anyway it is not so.
What could be worse than sitting in a lecture room without understanding the lecture material and desparately looking for a reference book that will lead you through the topics carefully? Sounds familiar, isn'it? Well, here is a book deserved to be mentioned.
As a medical student, I have come across at least ten textbooks in cell physiology. Many of them are written without bearing in mind who their audiences are. However,"Gary Matthews';Cellular Physiology of Nerve and Muscle" has approached the topics in the student's shoes and talked OUR LANGUAGE. Instead of throwing you the formulae, he would try to take you through the idea behind it such as how they are dereived and answers your "WHYS". For instance, he takes his reader step by step to how the membrane potential is determined - really impressive.
A little bit of understanding in basic biology, chemistry and physics would allow you read through the book comfortably. It is true that this book is aiming at a beginner group; it is however, a fantasic teaching tool for all lecturers (to draw examples) and those who would like to fully understand the fundamental science about synapses and neurotransmission.
|

| I teach anatomy and physiology subjects at a Health Faculty, and I have been using Physiological Medicine as my guide for the subject of Applied Physiology. I find it extremely useful, well written, with good summaries, questions and cases. The graphic quality could be better, yes, but everything important is there.
I am a neurologist and I have this expensive "hobby" of buying science books. I have read many biology and physiology text books and none comes close to this wonderfully presented physiology material that is pleasurable to read (yes, I mean it!) and at the same time laden with clinical knowledge. My only suggestions are that this book be made available on hard copy with longer paper size, and the illustrations be made on entire pages. This book should be made a classic in my opinion.
My name is Marco Antonio Vazquez and I am a physician from Mexico. To tell the truth, "Physiological Medicine" is an excelent book. Unfortunately, there is not an spanish edition. You see, when I was a medical student, I did not read english and I had never had a chance to read a book like this one. I remember that I used to read some good Physiology's books: Berne and Levy, Guyton and Best and Taylor.
In my private practice, because of the clinical cases, I have used this book a lot. This cases makes me think in real human beens with real problems. Because of this situations I think medicine is an art.
In some ways due to this book I have become to be a much more humble physician. I believe that I understand better my own limitations. Nature is quite much more complex that I used to think. In some way, I think that nature defends itself against some of our medical actions.
I really enjoy reading books like this and Lehninger's Biochemistry. It is fantastic to understand the real foundations, how it works our body, from biomolecules to organs and systems. I hope that this very basic knowledge makes me a better physician and human been at last.
DO NOT HESITATE, YOU SHOULD BUY THIS WONDERFUL BOOK¡¡¡¡ |
