Univ. of Nevada School of Medicine, Reno. Text serves as a review of material pertaining to pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and social science in preparations of the USMLE Step 1 exam. Expanded-outline, chart format. Includes CD-ROM with more than 1,000 review questions. Softcover.
Review USMLE questions test your ''deep, detailed'' knowledge, and the way you explicate knowledge, not your mnemonic heard a day or two before the test. So, buy comprehensive study material and know everything in detail. Usmle tet you logic, what you understand from tables and graphs, so memorized words won't help you, that is what this book does. It is for memorizing Hurler syndrome, the enzyme causing it, the nerve for wrist extension, but most of the questions test not words and names but your ability to analyse and explicate.
I used this book as part of my Step 1 studying and found it easy to use, well organized and great for self-testing with helpful chart formats. It's terrific for last minute reviewing and also for getting a good framework to organize the material as you learn it. The CD Rom is also fantastic, really helped me to solidify those "buzzword" associations. Thanks, Dr. Carl!
Do NOT waste your money. First Aid is far superior. There are multiple mistakes in Ridiculously Simple that will have you wasting precious time cross-referencing. It also leaves out many of the more significant details about diseases, disorders, microbes, etc. Seriously, if you want to waste your money, you can send it to me.
Blueprints Computer-Based Case Simulation Review is the first and only book to break down the computer-based case simulations administered on day two of the Step 3 exam. Many review books help you study for the multiple-choice question portion of Step 3, but none of them prepare you for the computer-based cases. More than a practical guide, this must-have resource is your key to scoring high. The focused strategy for handling cases lets you apply your clinical knowledge to the exam with confidence. If you want to maximize your Step 3 test score, you need Blueprints Computer-Based Case Simulation Review! Features: Master the CCS test format Understand the tricks to treating computerized patients Predict your CCS Case topics before the exam Learn how your exam is scored Special advice for International Medical Graduates
Review This small book was the best review for just before Step 3. Other Case reviews are inaccurate on format or included sections... this one is "perfect" for your line of thinking for the exam.
What a great addition to the Blue Prints series. This tiny book teaches you step by step how to "play the game" of the Sim section of Step 3. If you can master this, the sim section will be a breeze...I had no surprises the day of the exam, and I thank this book for giving me the tools to crush it.
it is one of nice book for step3 preparation .it really help me lots... i strongly recommended one should go thro this book before step3 exam...

High-yield facts, learning, tips, and clear explanations integrated within the outline promote comprehension and recall; clinical correlations integrated within the outline link topics to their clinical applications.
Regarded by many students as the strongest USMLE Step 1 tool on the market, USMLE Step 1 Recall: Buzzwords for the Boards is now in its Third Edition. The question-and-answer Recall format helps students memorize the facts that are most often tested on the USMLE. An especially popular Power Review section helps students brush up on the details and test how well they've retained knowledge over the study period. The thoroughly updated Third Edition organizes facts according to their specific basic science disciplines and provides current, accurate information at just the right level of depth for study and review.
Review This is a pretty good test of how well you studied material, but not a good way to review material for boards. Pretty much you will go through the book and be in love with yourself for having memorized a bunch of facts from notes and other reviews, or you won't. There are minimal explanations to mechanisms or etiologies, and a few mnemonics that seem helpful. Other than that, I just used it as a way to determine how well I had understood material from other sources. If you buy a 200 page paperback with writing on half of each page and expect to have a board review book, you aren't studying right.
Has the potential for being a very helpful book, but I found it to be filled with repeated questions and incorrect information - suprising for a 2nd edition. Wouldn't recommend this book until someone does a much better job editing it.
This book isn't so bad. It is true that the NBME is moving away from using buzzwords in their questions, but many of the questions in this book are useful to remind you of important facts. For example, the first question in the biochemistry section is "What is the rate limiting step in glycolysis?" Answer "PFK-1". If you're the type of person who likes to study by answering questions (which I do) this book will save you time. I normally make up my own questions as I go along but this book does it for me. And not all keywords are bad -- it's difficult to describe verbally what Howell-Jolly bodies in a manner that specifically hints at asplenia -- it's just plain easier to use the eponym. With those considerations in mind, I would recommend this book, not as a primary source for study, but a good way to form associations with material you've just studied and to remember important, frequently tested facts.

Review Good product & quality merchandise. Product was as advertised & seller was straightforward. Would buy from &/or recommend again in the future.
Will probably use it as my main study aid for Step 2. Am also using Crush at first because it is a quicker read, but not as detailed. Would definitely recommend using FA Step 2 CK. Easier to read than FA Step 1. Good luck everyone. Rock it!

Review The book has good information, but it is in paragraph form, which makes it hard to find things quickly. More of a textbook reference than a review book.
The reason this book is so popular is that its light on information and provides a false sense of accomplishments as readers can finish this book rather quickly. Brochert's other book USMLE Step 2 Secrets is a much better than this and one that I recommend. This book is a joke. Unless you already have a sound base of information, this book is useless. It's too light on information and you will not pass the USMLE Step 2 if you read this book alone. I would definitely purchase First Aid or Step Up as they are better sources especially if you are seeking a comprehensive book to learn from. This book is like a kindergarden version of a Step 2 book. Brochert has enough sense not to make a Step 1 version of this book because he knows he couldn't get away with that. There is a reason Brochert has USMLE Step 2 secrets and all of the platinum vignettes because this book is so light on information.
Overall I am pretty disappointed in this book. Its treatments of the topics are, as others have said, overly simple (dont get me wrong, simple is usually a good thing, but the book is worthless if it dosent give any more detail than what the avg med student can regurgitate from memory any day of the week). It only makes a few basic points about each disease, which includes mostly stuff you should already know. It then ignores the more complex aspects, such as basic mechanism etc that are likely to be tested (usually through a 2nd or 3rd level question that appears more clinical in nature). The book also contains a large number of errors, which are largely conceptual (as in the author is directly saying something that is incorrect) as opposed to grammatical. I dont have any other step2 books to compare to, but i'd avoid it and try one of the others.

Review medEssentials for the USMLE Step 1 Excellent adquisition will recommend to other fellow students taking the USMLE STEP I examination
Pages and pages of charts -- much more comprehensive than First Aid. Great for review.
Everyone in my class used First Aid, however I am more of a visual learner, often needing charts and tables to memorize all the information. Medessentials is basically a book in chart format that will help you during the exam by recalling specific charts. The book is organized by system and each system starts with the embryology, anatomy, histology, physiology, pathphys, pathology and ends with pharm. Biochemistry and Molecular biology, along with biostats and behavioral science have their own seperate sections. The book contains high yield info in bold terms and has practically has more information than First Aid. It also doesnt have useless mnemonics as FA has it. Everyone I know who used medessentials got 230 or better.

Review I am a 2nd year PA student and currently doing my clinical rotations. Our school uses USMLE questions to test our knowledge at the end of each rotation. I have found this book to be a great help.
Much slower delivery in comparison to other sellers. POOR packaging. Damaged product. E-mailed seller more than a week ago NEVER got a response. WILL NEVER USE THIS SELLER AGAIN!!
The book was in great condition and arrived on time. I was very pleased with seller.
