| I am in college, currently taking my 2nd term of Anatomy and Physiology as a pre-requisite for nursing school. This textbook has been fundamental to my understanding of this course, both for this term and last term (and I plan to use it next term, as well).

The clincher is that this is not the required text we are using for my class. A friend just happened to give me this Saladin book when she heard I was taking A&P and so I am using it as a companion text. Little did I know how much I would come to rely on this book; I really feel lucky that it was given to me.

The text my school uses is Martini's Fundamentals of Anatomy Physiology, which, to be fair, is also a very good text book. But there is something about the way Saladin writes and the way he organizes his thoughts about the subject matter that makes it so much easier for me to understand.Often, I will read my required textbook and be totally lost, not "getting it." This is especially true when I am researching information to answer essay questions for my exams. Then, I will read the same topic in Saladin's book and a light bulb will go off -- it will finally all make sense. I've even thought about writing a personal letter to the author to express my gratitude.

I highly recommend this textbook to anyone who wants a clear and easy to understand approach to anatomy & physiology. I feel Anatomy & Physiology: The Unity of Form and Function, by Kenneth S. Saladin, has been essential to my comprehension of anatomy & physiology; I'm not exaggerating when I say that being able to count on this book has helped me to keep making A's in this class! |

| I just used this for the Respiratory section of Physiology in medical school and it covered all topics that you will see on Step 1. Its easy to read and understand and is a great comprehensive guide.
This book is short and sweet, but don't be fooled: by the time you're done absorbing these lessons on respiratory physiology, you'll be well-armed to study and comprehend respiratory pathology.

As a medical student, I found, Respiratory Physiology: The Essentials, to be a clear, well-written book that will likely be useful for Step 1, and will definitely warrant a second reading during the clinical years to come.
Respiratory Physiology provides the basics needed for a medical school respiratory physiology unit. By purchasing this book, a medical student is able to focus on the respiratory system in more detail than in some basic physiology texts. |

| This is a good tool for a second year of high school biology. However, I'm an acupuncturist and I had higher expectations than the limited number of anatomical views and layers this series presents. The physiology sections are also about high school level.
This product is very good for the learning of the anatomy of a human. There are excellent quizzes to test your knowledge. The cadavers which are used are prepared excellently for viewing. The one issue with this product is that it took a long period of time to load when ever you wanted to change the view.
This product has it all! Access to Cadaver dissection and all relevant information about all anatomical structures, as well as self tests, histology, and radiography. A must for all medical students! |

| good book. the information is detailed and plenty of examples are included. i enjoy the running problems throughout the chapter.
The book is great at explaining things for someone looking into phys. for the first time. It is simple, easy to understand and has great visuals and interesting examples.[[ASIN:0805368515 Human Physiology: An Integrated Approach (4th Edition) (The Physiology Place Series)]] |

| Item was in exact condition as quoted and received in a pretty reasonable time frame. Would buy from this seller again.
I think my instructor had a lot to do with it, as well as some changes in study habits since I went to college the first time (2.68). But this book definitely helped. I had a 96 average in class. It's not an easy read, nor is something to try to do without some class notes, but I thought it was clear and informative.
This book was purchased for a high-school course.
Class hasn't started yet so can't rate the book
properly. I presume that it is good because the
school chose it. |

By: Eric P. Widmaier, Hershel Raff, Kevin T. Strang ISBN: 0073122866 Publisher: McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math Release Date: 25 January, 2005 Bioscience book rank: 67984
| This book is really hard to plough through. It's not written in an energetic way -- it's enthusiastic, but not particularly bright. Sort of Gee whiz, but not scholarly. Very lame writing. Not great use of diagrams either, though there are a lot of them.
I took Systems Physiology from Widmaier (the author of this book) and the course was phenomenal. The book served as an excellent reference and an exciting read. The only real downside to the book is there is so much interesting information that it is easy to get sidetracked when you are trying to study. |

| This is the textbook used in my bioengineering physiology class, and overall, it thus a great job of covering the basics of physiology without going too deep into the details. You get a nice view of the big picture and even get a lot of help understanding the concepts because of all the figures and images that they have included in this book. This would thus be an appropriate textbook if you're teaching yourself physiology as it applies to humans.

If you're looking for something that goes into more detail, more appropriate for a medical or professional bookshelf, I highly suggest checking out Guyton and Hall's Textbook of Medical Physiology. It is a book that will certainly be a great addition to the bookshelf of physicians and bioengineers alike.
One of the best textbooks I have purchased; very easy to read, succint, and well-written. However, McGraw-Hill falsely advertises about the online learning tools such as online quizzes, etc. You can spend $132.00 but you are NOT getting the online learning tools as they said! |

| Thank you, I recieved my book quick and in excellent conditions with any extras that came with it.
i didn't like the lab manual too much.. but anyone who is trying to buy this.. LOOK UP THE 8th ED.!! almost the same thing for less
ISBN # 0-8053-7249-0
I got the book in 3 business days in brand new condition, thank you. The only thing that I have noticed after getting my purchase and comparing it to my other class mate's books that the human skeleton atlas was missing. But that's OK, now. Otherwise as always, Amazon delivers! |

By: Phillip E., Ph.D. Pack ISBN: 0764563734 Publisher: Cliffs Notes Release Date: 15 June, 2001 Bioscience book rank: 34418
| I bought this hoping for something equivalent to the textbook but not as big. This does the trick and more. I love it!!! i also have the study companion from cliffs that i also love as well. Its really helping me in my grasp of A&P.
Most A&P textbooks are just too big to be useful for review. This Cliffs Quick Review is great in that they have packed a lot of important information into such a small and readable book. The figures and tables don't compare artistically to those found in the extremely expensive full color glossy pages of the latest textbooks, but they are competitive in terms of being useful and helpful for learning. This book is a very good resource for review. You may need to use other resources if, for example, you want to review more than the very basics of physiology, but for a general review this book does just fine.
I bought this book for my Anatomy & Physiology I and II classes. It was a huge help to me. Topics are made easy to understand, and it is very portable with is smaller size. It is very clear and concise and includes helpful charts and diagrams. So if you are needing a little extra help with these classes, I would recommend this book. It's cheap, not bulky, and makes difficult concepts easy. |

By: Stephen Goldberg ISBN: 0940780216 Publisher: Medmaster Release Date: 01 January, 2007 Bioscience book rank: 6101
| This is a good first source in beginning your Step 1 review. It'll jog your memory before you dive into other review books. It also has very helpful ways of explaining physiology concepts (except for the pulmonary chapter) which you may have had trouble understanding before. This book has less of the helpful pictures compared to their Microbiology MRS book, but the text is still very good and easy to understand. If you have trouble with physio, try this book!
I'm a first year Med student and have found this book to be a valuable resource. The explanations are perfect for gaining a broad understanding of often difficult subjects before diving into the textbooks and journals.
The chapters about fluid/electrolyte balance and immunology are incredible, clarifying concepts that I had struggled through previously. In addition, clinical correlations augment the discussion of normal physiology, keeping things real for those us getting early clinical exposure on the wards. The author implements useful drawings and flowcharts that further simplify complex material. For example, the immunology "cartoon" flowchart is perfect for understanding the central role of CD4 cells in binding to an MHC2, and depicting the numerous downstream events of adaptive immunity. In takes about an hour or two to plow through a chapter (and actually understand everything), but in the end, you have a great foundation that can be enhanced through lectures or PBL depending on your program.
Regarding the negative reviews below, what do these people expect from such a thin book? The author even admits in his preface that it should be used in conjunction with a text. I don't feel this book is intended for USMLE preparation or as a "study guide" for a medical school exam. These reviewers would be better served with a large spoon, a copy of Guyton, and a bib.
Clinical Phys made ridiculously simple dumbs down complex subjects and gives you a big picture understanding of how things work- this is the first book I've come across that makes learning physiology simple and efficient. In addition, I've found the Radiology, Anatomy and Microbiology books in this series to be particularly useful so far.
As with other books by Dr. Goldberg, this one is nothing short of miraculous! Through a systems-based approach, an otherwise complicated and tedious subject is transformed into an accesible and enjoyable voyage. Quite honestly, you should leave your standard thick physiology texts in the corner to use for curls or bench pressing... this book ABSOLUTELY encompasses the key knowledge of physiology in a fraction of the time. It seems like a gimmick, but it isn't. Having graduated from med school a few years ago, I can still say with authority that this book will serve you well into the future, not to mention on your next test, which will undoubtedly include mostly clinically oriented questions which, in turn, can ALL be answered after a careful and thoughtful review of this book. Don't waste any more time... read this one first! --This text refers to the Paperback edition. |
