| Wonderful guide and so easy to read. Very concise and easy to flip to the exact disorder you are wondering how to treat or assess! One of the best SLP books I have!
The author of this book also happens to be my speech therapist. I suspect he's been using these treatments on me, and they've been working. To the snake oil guy: if there is any bias in this book, it is towards effectiveness. Unlike mentalistic psychology (believe me, we've had endless arguments about mentalism vs. behavioralism), Dr. Hegde tries to use the scientific method to approach any number of communicative disorders. The treatments are based in the scientific method, and are, by definition, verifiable, repeatable, and emperical. No mentalism here!
This is an excellent resource for a practicing speech-language pathologist in any setting. It quickly reminds you of all of the things you learned in graduate school, but have since forgotten. It is much easier to look up information here than to dig through all of your old textbooks and notes. I am shocked that Amazon even printed the earlier review giving this text only one star. The reviewer did not write a review of this book. He simply attacked the entire field of speech-language pathology. |

| I have founds both the Assessment and Treatment Manual equally helpful for new and experienced SLP's. As for the review titled "Speech therapy does not work," it is clear that we have a irrational person that cannot see beyond his/her personal experience to see how invaluable SLP's are. We are trained to service many different ages and disorders. Effectiveness of a whole profession should never be evaluated out of anger from an individual experience. However, it is evident that certain support groups are trying to program families into this belief, which is very unfortunate and unproductive(especially for the person their trying to advocate for)! Speech Language Pathologist are helping their clients daily in the rehabilitation and remediation of skills to help them regain or acquire skills that enable them to function in society. Along with cognitive rehabilitation and speech and language intervention, we also provide dsyphagia therapy (feeding therapy) which certainly helps a client to begin/regain the ability to tolerate certain types of food/textures. This is done to ultimately avoid aspiration pnuemonia, which could be fatal if not treated. This technique strenghthens muscles that assist in eating and articulating. As you can see, our profession is extrememly important. Unfortunately we are not "miracle workers" and can only rehab and treat to the client's ability. A team of advocates, lawyers, or irate family members cannot change this in a person. It is what it is. Maybe the anger should be redirected positively to the person who really needs it, and acceptance should begin. Just then, maybe "real" progress may be observed. SLP's are not rewarded by high salaries, but work and worry about our clients endlessly. Our therapuetic techniques evolve as research does. Keeping an open mind helps people to improve professionally, as well as personally.
This is an excellent resource with descriptions, ideas, examples, helpful hints and age appropirate goals. Not only do you get sample activies but they are very detailed too. They also list additional resources. OH! and example profiles... you can see if one of your students has similar attributes. They have therapy for children, adolescents and adults... what more can you ask for. I used this book to learn and use "pace" therapy, what a great help! =) |

| The book came in perfect condition and was exactly as I ordered it. I received it in a decent amount of time, and have good experience with my orders on Amazon.
I have read about 5 chapters of this book so far. I am extremely happy with the text, the authors give a good description about the various pathologies throughout the chapters and also give a section after a topic on how to apply the information listed to physical therapy. I am sure this will be a book that is frequently visited to refreshen my memory on a specific disease/illness and will rarely collect dust.
Great pathology book...very comprehensive. Excellent review of systems for this PTA in acute care. |

| This new atlas has LOTS of additional photos of pathologic specimens (both gross and microscopic images, with many helpful radiologic correlations) not included in the 7th edition of Robbins & Cotran. The photos are of excellent quality, and follow along, chapter-for-chapter, with the text for ease of review. Key features are highlighted by use of focal symbols placed within the images to direct the reader to landmarks detailed within the corresponding captions. The captions are substantial, and reinforce important concepts by using many of the same key words and phrases found in the more detailed text, as well as including additional information to enhance understanding. One thing is certain: In the field of pathology, pictures always help! This atlas wasn't available when I took sophomore pathology in medical school, but I am glad to now have it as a companion to "Big" Robbins as part of general pathology practice and review. So why didn't I give it "5 stars", you ask? Because there is always room for improvement, and since this is R&C's first atlas, more reviews are needed for this and future editions before extoling perfection. Regardless, I think they're off to a good start!
Do you want to get 99 on the USMLE Step 1?
<br />'Pocket Companion to Robbins & Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease' + 'Robbins & Cotran Atlas of Pathology' + 'Robbins & Cotran Review of Pathology' is the best combination ever created for this purpose - you'll not only pass, you'll ace the boards!
<br />'Robbins & Cotran Atlas of Pathology' isn't just the atlas of systematic pathology with numerous highest quality lebeled photographs of gross pathology, microscopic slides, and radiologic images - it also contains the review text arranged as legends explaining illustrations; by using this atlas together with 'Pocket Companion to Robbins & Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease', you'll be able to understand and to answer the great case-based USMLE-style MCQs presented in 'Robbins & Cotran Review of Pathology'.
<br />Triple 'Robbins' is a killer combination far superior to all other popular reviews of pathology on the market (for example, 'BRS Pathology') - those reviews lack important details, especially, about the mechanisms of disease (step 1's favorite), contain outdated information, are mostly without illustrations (you'll get a lot of macro and micro pathology pictures and radiologic images on step 1), and don't have the sufficient number of good quality MCQs.
<br />By the way, illustrations in 'Robbins & Cotran Atlas of Pathology' are completely different from those presented in other books of the 'Robbins family'.
<br />This book isn't expensive - $49.95 is an unusually low price for 529 pages long full-color hardcover medical atlas.
<br />The last, but not the least - triple 'Robbins' combination is the most entertaining and easy way of studying and reviewing pathology - you'll not be bored! |

| I have now had this book for about a month, and I have found that the tables and text are first rate. The images are good to good enough. I would say that this is going to continue to be a heavily used tome on my shelf!!! Well worth the price. |

| This book, is one of the more complete on the oral pathology subject, excellent for students and essential for the dentist's office
I am a 2nd year Stomathological Medicine Ms. resident and have had this book from the beginning and must say it is a first class reference book.
<br />
<br />Not only it is physically well done (thick glossy paper, full colored images and state of the art design), but it has a very complete content organized by clinical features, histopathological characteristics, treatment and prognosis and so on. It has also got an appendix with differential diagnosis.
<br />
<br />To be an OMF Pathology work it has a very good OMF Medicine approach.
<br />
<br />It is a must not only for undergraduate, but for postgraduates as well.
Simply put, this is the best text available for Oral Pathology. Incredible pictures, concise yet detailed information, etc. The change to color photos in the newest addition was a tremendous upgrade. Every dental practitioner should own a copy of this book. |

| As a 2nd year Radiology resident, this book is a good primer for CT and MRI correlates. It's in no way a substitute for a text or full-series discussion, but to solidify key concepts of common pathology as your reviewing cases initially, it's hard to beat.
<br />Cheap and Introductory...a good buy.
This is a very good portable resource, offering a review regarding common pathologies. This will help you to identify the meanly characteristics of the diseases. The price is accessible. Good quality images.
This is a great book. Each section gives a description and image (CT and/or MR) of most pathologies as well as its etiology,epidemiology, signs and symptoms, which sequences best visualize the pathology, treatment, and even a prognosis.
<br />The book covers everything from head to feet. |
 | | By: Juan Rosai ISBN: 0323013422 Publisher: Mosby Release Date: 23 March, 2004 Bioscience book rank: 111468
| The book is well structured and very intuitive. Easy to read and comprehend
I read the previous edition and the current one... I found that it is a change from the better to the best. Rosai's surgical pathology is the only dependable text and the easiest to read and review book for the pathology residents. It is not comparabale to the other surgical pathology books because ..simply..it is the best. I realy advise it to the pathology residents and consultants.
Unless you plan on purchasing both Rosai and Sternberg, most people at some point decide which one to buy. Since both are roughly the same price and the same length with the same amount of illustrations, it can be difficult to decide. Here is my take. If you're a resident, you'll probably prefer Sternberg because it is easier to read and has better charts and review tables. If you're an older resident or pathologist, Rosai is more comprehensive and thorough, although more laborious to read. Either way, you can't really go wrong as long as it doesn't just collect dust on the shelf. This book truly is excellent and you will not be disappointed if you choose Rosai. |
