| This book covers the pathology and genetics of nervous system tumors in a very clear and organized manner. It is a good reference book both for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis of different NS neoplasms as well as having a concise description of grading, name synonyms, histopathology and clinical signs. | I'm really dissapointed. Cardisa is not the author. the book is only revised by him. microphotographs are too small end not enough for a pathology book. index not well organised. important pathologies are missing (ex Sjogren syndreome in the salivary glands chapter). The overall result is DISSAPOINTING. |

| How is an Atlas of this magnitude compiled? It would seem that two necessary elements are a long standing tenure at the largest medical center in the world, and a mind with a memory of a steel trap. It is a rare but fortunate thing when a young man discovers his calling in life at a young age, but such was the case for Dr. Cagle, who began collecting lung research cases at 23 years of age and won the prestigious Soffer Award from the College of Chest Physicians when he was only 35 years old. As his reputation grew, so did his consults and his pathology archives are perhaps the largest pulmonary collection extant, and include such rare examples as a desmoplastic small round cell tumor, and the second reported case of a hylanizing granuloma in the literature. These archives were opened and photographed to share not only the more commonly diagnosed lung diseases, but to show the most unusual, as well. The point in learning of such cases is not merely academic, as an old physician said once to me, "That's okay, if it is rare, one day you might see one, and you'll remember what it was and maybe save a life." The text is often unsophisticated and to the point, but the emphasis in such a work should be in the photographic images and scope, and in these areas this book excells with a richness of color. This is a work of scholarship to be used, close to the microscope, for residents and fellows, and those in the field. More people die of lung cancer than prostate, breast, and colon cancer combined. An atlas to aid in the early diagnosis of lung cancer for the pathologist should be welcome. |
I bought this atlas for my friend Pathologist, who does also Histology work.I was expecting more microphotographs in this atlas. I found atlas of Histopathology of more use than this Atlas. I would say this book is overpriced for what it is.
I have been in this field for 18 years and found this book to be very informative. I was greatly impressed at the explainations of the different types of trauma. I would highly recommend this book as reference book to homocide investigators, F.I. and any law enforcement personelle working this area. |

| I found this book pretty helpful. If you buy it, don't expect and exhaustive review. It's goal is to go over the very basics. I used it during pathology at the beginning, when I was first learning things and was a bit overwhelmed by Robbins. HY pathology is easy to read, with clear diagrams.
What it does right: Very easy to read, info is organized well when present. Very simple (good and bad).

What it does wrong: Overly simple and severely lacking in critical info necessary to differentiate pathologies. Not enough pathology present. Insufficient for USMLE.

Conclusion: This book does not live up to its claim at all. It is NOT useful for USMLE prep or course work. It IS useful to quickly review generalizations of topics possibly before learning them in detail, but the book lacks so much detail, you could never study from it. Simple is good for quick refreshers (you can read this book in a few hrs) - but Goljan RR path is the Gold standard for pathology. Only buy this book if path intimidates you and you want to get a jump on it before you become and MSII. I question its usefulness in a medical school path course (as the author claims it was written for) bc you could barely diagnose typical community acquired pneumonia with the info in this book. |
