| I found this book extremely useful in studying for the biochemistry portion of the board exams (Step 1 USMLE). It was very concise, expertly written, and thus, easy to follow. I would rather have had this book as the primary text in the medical biochemistry course. I highly recommend this book to my fellow medical students. The convincing earlier review persuaded me to buy it, and I wasn't disappointed.
I had the pleasure of using Biochemistry by Roskoski in a graduate level biochemistry course. We used it in conjunction with Biochemistry by Garrett and Grisham. The Roskoski text is remarkable in its simplicity and amount of depth in such a well-written, compact style. There are mentions of clinical correlations to go along with discussions of classic biochemistry concepts. It should be noted that the author has both the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees. The figures are extremely useful, and the last chapter entitled Integration of Metabolism I have found to be an invaluable reference tool. Also, it is one of the only biochemistry books I have seen to have a chapter that discusses aspects of cancer and proto-oncogenes, as well as the classical biochemical pathways. This book is a must have for those continuing to study biochemistry. I am involved in research involving metabolism and I highly recommend it. |
