As someone who has studied drug therapy for nearly 30 years, I highly recommend this book. It is concise and well-written and provides the practioner, therapist, and sports enthusiast with important information on medication use and exercise.
I recently read a review in a well-respected journal about drug therapy. Their review summarized this book better than I could as, "reasonably priced and highly recommended for sports clinicans and therapists."

A long awaited and comprehensive reference, Dr. Reents' book covers a wide range of pharmacological agents (prescription and OTC drugs, nutritional supplements, and herbal products), from caffeine in coffee to injectable derivatives of testosterone and androstendione, and their effects on general health, exercise physiology, and atheletic performance. Written for health care professionals, consumers, professional atheletes, and personal trainers, this book will also be a valuable reference for high school and college atheletic coaches wanting accurate information to help young atheletes understand the potential benefits and/or harm these agents may produce as they mature into adulthood.
Of special interest are case studies that describe potential real-life situations, information on what substances are banned by various professional atheletic organizations (e.g., NCAA, USOC), and advice to physicians on counseling atheletes taking prescription medications for legitimate medical conditions. The book contains timely examples of products currently on the market and includes definitions for many "scientific" terms and concepts.
While there is no index (which made finding information on a specific drug or nutritional supplement difficult), the table of contents contians significant detail so as to make locating general topics easy, e.g., the effects of creatine supplements. Nevertheless, Dr. Reents' efforts are to be applauded. This book should be on every atheletic coach's list of "must read" references.

Dr. Stan Reents has to be comended on shedding light on this subject of growing interest. Not only he discusses the effect of commonly used drugs in clincal practice on exercise but he also brings forth the current sceintific evidence on 'performance inhancing' drugs and supplements. The information is of great value to any clincian and sports trainer in helping to seperate the myth from the facts in this rapidly expanding area of supplementation for exericse performance.

Concise and thorough, it uses two pages to cover each key topic in clinical pharmacology. This book covers the principles of pharmacology at the level needed for a doctor or medical student. Most other texts are either large turgid and incomprehensible or, if simple, have many errors. For more detail you may need to attend lectures or delve deeper, this is easy to read or use as a quick reference. Well illustrated with very clear explanations.
