| I decided to purchase this book as a supplement to the textbook we use in class. You know, you read the complicated textbook and then the supplement next. Not so any longer. This guide gets right to the point. Reading it before class has facilitated my understanding of lectures and comprehension of the required readings.
You don't have to be a medical student to derive value out of this book. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.
I ordered this book the first week that classes started and received it the following week. The book was like new as promised and I had no problems with the seller throughout my buying process. I would highly recommend this seller! Thanks~
The book was in perfect condition--brand new, no markings in the text, in tact cover...plus free shipping! |

| This book is a godsend--it was my best friend, my baby during 2nd year and for the Boards. I can't praise it enough. It had just enough information in it about everything that I needed, it was an excellent basis for pathology for the Boards. Supplement with a Robbins Path Book if you want extensive detail (and for the great pictures in Robbins!) and you'll be set.
Concise material that covers all the bases. Good tables for quick recap, and Q & A's are good for studying when pressed for time.
This is a great Step 1 review book. I used others as well, but after taking the exam, I can say that this was the most useful review book. I have Goljan Pathology as well, but this BRS is much more essential, and doesn't contain all the details needed for Step 2, so it is a good quick read with good practice quizzes and pretty much all the essential info you need, and you don't feel just overwhelmed after reading each chapter. It would've been nice if the authors added color illustrations to the text, and some figures in the quizzes were unclear. But overall buying this book was the best textbook investment I've made so far. |

By: Malcolm S Thaler ISBN: 0781773156 Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Release Date: 01 September, 2006 Bioscience book rank: 14655
| There are 2 main ECG books med students use, Thaler's and Dubin's. Having seen the other and used this one primarily, I feel the Thaler text is by far better for second or third year med students. He covers all the main cardiac and extra-cardiac pathology that can be seen on the ECG and does so with very good explanations that you'll remember without having to feel like you're memorizing. His introductory chapter explaining how the ECG works is also excellent and allows you to understand what part of the heart each lead represents, again without any real memorization. After reading his chapter this stuff just makes sense. While certainly not at the level of a cardiology fellow, this book serves the niche of an introductory ECG text for med, PA, CRNA, or ARNP students quite well. As a bonus, Thaler has a pretty fun sense of humor that makes the reading much more amusing that you'd expect for an ECG book.
Simple, direct, effective.

The plain truth is that EKG's are not as mysterious and complicated as some people and some texts would have you believe. This book boils it down to the basics, yet is very comprhensive.

A must-own for anyone having to interpret EKG's: from tele techs to EMTs to MDs.
I won the EKG reading contest at my program after reading this book. Of course, I did slightly more than just reading the book. But this book gives you all the basics that you will need. You can build a good foundation with the help of this book, reading journal articles, and reading real EKGs of your patients. |

| This book is a good book to have in your collection of medical references. It is concise and bulleted with pertinent information for wards, as the name suggests, as well as studying for the USMLE. It is easy to understand and easy to navigate when searching for something very specific. It is a small book but not small enough to carry in your white coat during rounds unless you have big pockets or if your pockets are empty, (most medical professionals I know don't have their pockets empty due to all the crap we have to carry), you might be able to fit it in there snuggly. All in all its a good book to have as a refresher or reference but i don't find it's good enough to use as the only resource when studying for USMLE.
this book is very useful for med school clinical years. provides a great overview that is brief and very useful on the wards. highly recommended.
Excellent resource for step 2 ck. Covers high yield topics in a simple and well structured way. A must have for your step 2ck |

| If you enjoy details and endless amounts of info, then this book is for you. It is also a good reference during neuro courses.
If you're a medical student taking Neuro, get this book ASAP! At first, I thought it wouldn't be useful because it is so lengthy (400+ pages) compared to the other books in the series. However, it turned out to be an absolute lifesaver while I was taking the course. The neuroanatomy course at my school was very unorganized and poorly taught and our required textbook was way too verbose to be helpful. This book is very well organized and very thorough for a review book- you really don't even need a textbook, just a neuroanatomy atlas. Rather than getting bogged down in trivial minutiae, this book presents all the basics you need to know to pass neuro. It also has hundreds of review questions to test your knowledge as you go. I couldn't possibly have organized my study of neuroanatomy without this book- and thanks to Dr. Fix, I actually managed an A in Neuro!
The only disadvantage is that, due to its length, it's probably overkill for board review. I'd suggest purchasing High Yield Neuroanatomy by the same author for a quick-and-dirty review before the boards, then testing yourself via the questions in this book.
Better than his lectures, you get the answers to many of the boards neuro questions. A quick, yet jam-packed review. Pay attention to the diagrams...they pay off in points on the USMLE. |

| This is a great review book. The questions make you realize just how well you know your anatomy and understand each concept.
The book states on its cover that it includes "online access to full text and questions from the book." Whereas there is access to questions, you get a message that the book is not yet available online when you try to access the online full text version. I emailed customer support about a month ago and still no response. The book itself is alright but nothing spectacular.
I found the summarys in this book extremely helpful and thought highly of the BRS Gross Anatomy until I started to take the review tests at the end of each chapter. The questions are full of errors, likely due to shoddy editing. Be wary! |

| Great charts - all I needed for my Psychopatholgy course and definitely all that's needed for Boards.
I've had the privelege of having the author be my professor at UMDNJ. Knowing Dr. Fadem personally, I can see the kind of care she puts into teaching students. It is with this same care that this book is written. This book is a great review of the material and is very useful for the Behavioral Science shelf exam (and Step 1 review) |

| I have used many of the BRS books for class (the physio one is great!), but this one I found to be confusing and disorganized. It was not pertinent to the material covered on the USMLE or in microbio. I would probably recommend finding another book to study with (in our school we studied more hitsology than cell bio, so it depends on your curriculum).
If you are a starting MS1 this is a good book to use for class as it has alot of good detail condensed in an outline format. It comes with a CD that has been quite helpful. However, when it comes to the Boards is just too big of a book for a subject that is not high yield- think about it- this book is just as big as BRS Path. Do you really have that much time to read a low yield subject? No. So instead for Histo- I recommend using a smaller book to review for the boards: I recommed Road Maps: Histo as opposed to High Yield Histo.
I used this book and the following which is also on Amazon.com:
Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers.
The first book was written well and was quite helpful in preparing me for my histology exams in med school. Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (ISBN: 0971999686) was so on target with the kind of questions asked on my histology exams in med school. It also proved to be helpful for the histology portion of the USLME Step 1. It goes to show since I got excellent grades in my histology class and on my USLME. I gave my friends both of these books to study from for class exams and for the boards, and they all passed the first time. My advice is to get both books. |

| I was very disappointed with this BRS. I have collected most BRS's for MS-1s and have been impressed with the thorough but concise manner in which information is conveyed.
In contrast, micro is outdated, redundant, disorganized and generally not useful.
The one high point of this book is that the immuno section is good. It helped me greatly with our half semester immuno course. Otherwise I would have given it only 1 star.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend a better resource.
This book has covers all the necessary topics, including immunology. But the best part is that it has a total of 416 questions!! This is a great source of practice questions for the USMLE. Still, it could use more pictures and diagrams. Just for the questions its worth the money.
i just took the nbme shelf exam and i must say without reservation that this book was not very good. look to other review books if you want to study for the shelf or for the boards. |

By: Ronald W Dudek ISBN: 0781771161 Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Release Date: 01 June, 2007 Bioscience book rank: 172159
| It's fairly straight forward and to the point -what it formed when, what can go wrong and what does it mean for classes/boards. There is a bit more than that but a few colored pencils and a good once-through makes this a great quick reference book any time after that. I review the corresponding chapters as I am going through my systems courses to cut to the chase and get past some of the fluff of lectures. Could be better but worth the price.
Overall, a very good book for mastering the embryology part for the Step 1 test. No other embryology text is needed for the boards other than this. This book is far more sufficient. Just make sure you actually know the material from this BRS text to smooth sail this section on the USMLE exam! It is a must to have for Step 1.
Works well for those who have already studied the material in a textbook and are just reviewing the basics. |
