| Delivered quickly and much cheaper than college book store. This was teacher's edition, which has answers the student edition does not.
I must say I felt bad with the price of the book - I felt it was much too high. But after reading the first few chapters of the book, and noting that it flows and is very easy to understand, I do not have to complain so much now. I am loving the book now.
[A review of the 7th Edition, that came out in 2006.]

The text starts off easily. With the elementary definitions of mean, median, percentiles etc. Things you probably should have dealt with in high school. Likewise with its treatment of probability theory. Though the latter goes directly to the normal or Gaussian distribution.

But the meat of the book really starts in part 3, which is about inferences of means and mean differences. For you, as a student or researcher, what is important is not a definition of terms and distributions, but how to test hypotheses. From this flows such ideas as the t statistic and the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Part 4 builds on this, with nonparametric tests and regression analysis. The linear regression in one variable is simple. Then you get multiple regression with 2 variables. Tied in is the chi square test and various other tests.

The book also is a quick introduction to using SPSS as your basic statistical program. In your field, SPSS is likely to be the dominant such program, and you need an indepth acquaintance with it. |

| Great charts - all I needed for my Psychopatholgy course and definitely all that's needed for Boards.
I've had the privelege of having the author be my professor at UMDNJ. Knowing Dr. Fadem personally, I can see the kind of care she puts into teaching students. It is with this same care that this book is written. This book is a great review of the material and is very useful for the Behavioral Science shelf exam (and Step 1 review) |

| I had to get this book for my statistics class. I am not good at math but this book is written well enough that I was able to get a great grade on a test. I am pretty happy with this book :)

| The book description and some of the reviews do not refer to this text. The book primarily reviews development of theory and then presents an overview of various nursing grand and middle range theories, followed by theories from biological, behavioral, education, management, and sociology that are useful and applicable to nursing.
Nice text; well-written, but the ridiculous index makes this somewhat of a joke. Whoever wrote the index (looks author-generated?) doesn't know the purpose/function of an index.
The book was too "wordy". It used a lot of words to say the same thing over and over, to perhaps fill pages for a publisher. |

| This book seems to be written for an undergraduate audience. If you are a graduate students and/or if you have already taken a course in research methods, chapters 7-9 are probably the only ones that will be useful, new information for you. Since these chapters are helpful, I would still recommend the book to graduate students if you can find it for no more than $15, but I don't think it's worth much more than that.
This book walks you right through the literature review process. It gives ideas for organizing your research and is something you will keep right by your side as you write your literature review. A must have for graduate students writing literature reviews in APA.
This is an easy-reading book that will walk you through the writing process, and give you steps to keep you working towards your deadline, so you don't leave yourself too little time to do the paper. |

| I recommend this book to ALL my PhD. students. I recommend it to you! Your university's specific format may differ, but a dissertation proposal guided by this book will be thorough and conceptually useful as a road map for the dissertation itself.
The authors should have considered a non-native reader in preparing this book. I feel that this book would be good, but because of long and complex sentences, the readers, especially, non-native readers, must be challenged. In order to share a lot of ideas the authors suggested with readers as much as possible, the authors ought to revise this book with simple structures, short sentences, and plain English. |

By: Gary Belsky, Thomas Gilovich ISBN: 0684859386 Publisher: Simon & Schuster Release Date: 06 April, 2000 Bioscience book rank: 17016
| This book is well worth reading. Even though I am sixty-nine years old with an extensive background in finance, I still found the contents of this book very interesting. Much of what is written I already know and have practiced for many years, which has lead me to accumulate a fair amount of wealth to live a comfortable life in retirement.

What I have learned from Messrs. Belsky and Gilovich is an ability to teach my grandchildren (and children, if they will listen) some financial fundamentals which will also allow them to accumulate wealth. My oldest granddaughter who is 23 is well on her way, not only saving in a Roth IRA and 401(k) plan, but also understanding some basic principals, such as saving small amounts and the power of compounding.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants to begin to make smart money decisions and get financially ahead. As Ben Stein says, wealth accumulation is freedom. Freedom from worry and freedom to buy the things you need to enjoy living a comfortable life. If you accept the economic principals presented in this book you will achieve financial freedom.
For more than 20 years I have been fascinated why so many people make financial decisions which defy rationality. Unfortunately, I find it extremely difficult to read and comprehend most of the research papers that has been done in the field of behavioral finance. The last 5 years have seen several good books explaining the results of the emerging field of behavioral finance. This book is one of those good books.

As a fan of index funds, I enjoyed reading this book's explanation and recommendation for suggesting index funds.

This book is very readable and is an excellent primer on the major concepts which are emerging from behavioral finance research.

Socrates was right when he uttered his famous quote "Know Thy Self". One of the hardest things to do is to understand why we do what we do sometimes. This book helps explain some of this natural human behavior, and how we can manage it to make more rational financial decisions.

I would suggest companion books to supplement this book including:
[[ASIN:B000Q36EH4 How to Use Psychology to Achieve Your Financial Goals]]

The book is easy to read and it also covers a lot of interesting topics. Highly recommended. |

| This book is absolutely excellent. I have looked through other stats books and lost interest immediately, but this book is written in such a way that it actually makes you want to learn the material. Rather than just telling you how to solve the problem, the authors inform you as to why learning it is necessary, and frequently give you real-life, interesting scenarios regarding how specific formulas are used by psychologists.

Statistics, of course, becomes progressively more difficult over time, and you may need to seek outside help once you reach the last few chapters in particular. However, I believe that this book is the best of its kind, and it might be worth purchasing even if it is not your primary source for class, etc.
My first impression was that this book was priceless since it really helped me through the first couple of chapters in the main text. At the beginning it goes into lengthy, step-by-step instructions. I may not have felt as confident in the class if it had not been for this supplement. Once I reached chapter 6 and 7 it was all over! There was not enough information to help me understand what the book was losing me on, I needed to seek private tutoring at this point. Occasionally I still go to the book in the hopes that it can pick me up and get me through the homework but it does not. These later chapters may be too complicated to go into in a study guide but what would a study guide be for if not walking you through the steps? I am glad I bought it, just dissappointed that it quit so early.
This is the very best statistics book that I have purchased (and I have purchased 5 others trying to help me get a grasp on this subject)! I would recommend it to anyone who needs an easy--to-read and easy-to-understand textbook on this difficult subject! I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me! |

By: Jeffrey A. Kottler ISBN: 0787968943 Publisher: Jossey-Bass Release Date: 29 September, 2003 Bioscience book rank: 31238
| I really enjoy this book. I like the way the author is so blunt and frank about the pros and cons of psychotherapy. Gives a realistic view of what I will most likely encounter later in my career.
Its the first time I read one of Kottler's books. Incredibly easy to read, very organised, extremely practical and inspiring in its honesty of the good, the bad and the ugly of the therapist's calling. I keep it in a draw to read my favourite parts before a session. A must for the novice therapist. The other "bible" I keep re-reading is Mary Pipher's "Letters to a Young Therapist". Brilliant!
This is a fantastic book for the beginning therapist and a reminder to those more experienced. It reviews the pitfalls and joys of working in the field and reminds us of why we're here and for whos benefit. Compassionately dealt with subject matter that reads well. A must read. |
