The book is ok as an intro to Exercise Physiology. Well done. Should be around 40 dollars and no more. We are getting charged way to much for textbooks. American Politicians and educational institutions should Help the students out and not require new publications of text, till the are really needed. Let some break throughs happen and not just a few word changes. Thank you amazon, for offering this book below my schools bookstore cost.

This book has a very good visual presentation, but the content is surpassed. It seems that the authors never made a good review in the biochemistry section. They still talk about lactic acid, where all the biochemistry books talk about lactate. There are mistakes in bioenergetics, where the authors refer to muscle metabolism to what really occurs in the liver. This book was one of the best. Now it is history.

This book came on time and was in the expected condition. I would buy again.

I cannot believe that this book is being taught in schools- colleges no less! This book is a poor example of bad programming and money hungry publishers. Well done authors, you've managed to sell a book that students have to buy, whilst learning nothing from it, and will not be able to sell back. Bravo!

I've decided that at the end of my stint in Veterinary A&P lab, I'm going to have a party at my place and burn this book! <br /> <br />I don't even know where to start with this thing. The first exercise we did involved urea diffusion. We gave the results to our instructor, and she informed us that urea should have diffused, that it must have been a programming glitch in the DVD. What?! <br /> <br />Then I did another experiment at home that went alright, but the questions at the end kept asking about Na+ even though there wasn't any sodium anywhere in the experiment! You guessed it: programming problem. I would have learned more by just tossing a bunch of table salt in the bathtub and watching it dissolve. <br /> <br />This book and DVD has been nothing but a detriment to my Vet A&P education. The writers and publishers of this mess should be ashamed of themselves. <br /> <br />(One star because I couldn't give it zero.)

I don't know about this one....maybe if it came with a book of corrections! I don't really recommend it, unless you enjoy reading books with a bunch of errors.

While this text is very detailed, it does not seem to be organized well in my opinion. Information on topics were scattered through out the chapters. I also found the index to be incomplete and not helpful at all.

Great reference item. the book is well written and easy to follow. Highly recommended.

This book was required reading in my graduate program and I am thrilled that it was! I have worked in both acute care as well as school settings and have found this book to be extremely helpful from both ends of the spectrum. An absolutely fantastic desk reference, especially in the acute care setting!

Book is very well packaged, shipping is a little bit slow but still come in time. CD and book are just as good as it says online description. Better than buying in-store coz no CA tax.

Really feel the book has a lot of good information to offer but would like to know if an audio of the reading material is available. I find it hard to understand concepts. <br />Would do better if had audio tapes included with the book per the price you pay for the book.

As the review title suggests, I come from the old school of studying bacterial metabolism. My choice, still all these years after grad school and years of research & work, is H.W. Doelle's Bacterial Metabolism (unfortunately out of print). However, I discovered White's text while visiting the University of Oklahoma 2 years ago (the 2nd edition). The 3rd edition is an improvement with better diagrams and drawings. The collection of symbols and equations at the front of the book is very usefull with having it all in one place. However, Doelle'a approach is in some ways more stimulating with the first 2 chapters dealing with the thermodynamics, enzymology, and growth kinetics immediately. If you are weak in the areas of bacterial structures and dynamics, White gives an excellent approach to all of the cellur structures of prokaryotes. Doelle on the other hand concentrates exclusively on the actual chemistry of bacterial metabolism. Another strength of White is his introduction to solute & protein transportation. Along with this, White's final 2 chapters on adaptation and environmental stress response are very valuable additions. Without White's approach to increasing the reader's understanding the environment and its impact on the microbe, the study of metabolism is only an esoteric exercise. One of my major frustrations with White's work was the lack of extensive references of the various metabolic pathways and types with specific genus and/or species of bacteria. It is left up to the reader to find alternate sources for this application. Doelle, on the other hand, provides copious references. In the end, I believe White's work to be a central addition to the understanding and manipulation of the microbial metabolic processes. With the microbial world being "our enemy - our friend," White's work will go along way in helping us fragile humans to compete and coexist with this diverse group that co-inhabits this singular orb with us.

This is an excellent resource for biochemical pathways, relationships, and diagrams of prokaryotic physiology. The written material is particularly lucid, which is greatly appreciated. While the diagrams are simple and in black-and-white print, their reduced complexity lends clarity to the concepts illustrated. I highly recommend this book to anyone in the microbial sciences at the upper-undergraduate level and beyond.

Although it seems impossible to have just one text on the huge field of microbial physiology, this book makes a very valiant effort to be just that. The details are painstakingly researched, the text is concise and clear (no fluff anywhere!), and for such a small book, the author does a masterful job of presenting a huge amount of useful information. <br /> <br />Of course, every book has its downfalls, the main one of this book being its lack of helpful illustrations. Sometimes you just MUST HAVE some help visually to understand something (e.g. mixed acid fermentation, sporulation) and this book often didn't offer that. (Even if there WAS a figure, it was so hard to decipher that you'd be better off with nothing at all.) Also, some huge areas of microbial physiology were completely left out like bacterial stress response. <br /> <br />Overall, not the best but not the worst. It's certainly not a waste of money, but you might want to have some sort of companion book to supply your diagrams and illustrations.

This textbook is supposed to be written for a student who has never had anatomy and going into allied health professional field. The wording and sentance structure is so awkward, redundant, and not clear. Terms are scattered so haphazardly that it can make reading this text a chore. Several members of my anatomy class have discussed how the chapters take so much effort to read and comprehend while the outline at the end of each chapter is crystal clear.

I cannot say enough about how well this lab manual is written to coincide with the textbook, Hole's Human Anatomy & Physiology. Being one of the most challeging courses I have yet to take, I found this manual a tremendous help, especially with the visuals. The diagrams are fabulous and helped me tremendously to memorize the parts that were crucial on tests. The chapters on dissection were written very clearly and well organized. I found this book to be a great aid in helping me achieve an A average for my class.

This book is an excellent book for beginner students of anatomy. Everything is explained in simple terms. This graphics are superb! I highly reccommend this book for anyone trying to learn anatomy.
