I am happy with amazon prime fast delivery. The book is in good condition. I need this textbook for my phamocology course. It is a good introductory book to this subject. It is easy to start with it.
This book by far is the BEST pharm book out there for medical students. The book is easy to read and helps reinforce important concepts with ALOT of graphs and cartoons. I have this book, Katzung's Board&Review Pharm, and Lippincott's Pharm, and I feel like this book is the best for course work. It's overkill for board study, so I'll be using Katzung for that. Lippincott's is by far the worst, as there are TONS of mistakes in the book. So if you are a medical student looking for a great book for your pharmacology COURSE (again, not for board study), you cannot go wrong with this book.
Fast and easy transaction. Nothing went wrong- no reason to not give a perfect rating. (Even the material in the book is very helpful and easy to understand.)

This book is very useful for all kinds of health professionals. It is concise and well illustrated with helpful diagrams.
I'm a college professor and this illustrates a lot of my lectures for me. Great book.
I teach Pharmacology and I've never seen figures so fit to explain/understand the basic principles of this subject. Do pictures really say more than a thousand words? With regard to this book, the answer is YES.

For undergraduate courses in Drugs and Behavior Psychopharmacology, as well as graduate survey courses in Psychopharmacology. This text gives an up-to-date description of the field of Behavioral Pharmacology. It starts by describing basic pharmacological concepts of drug administration and pharmacokinetics, research methodology including clinical trials, tolerance and withdrawal, drug conditioning, addiction processes, and neuroscience of drug action. Each chapter, thereafter, applies these concepts to different classes of both recreational and therapeutic drugs. Each chapter includes a section on the history of the drug class that places the drug in its historical and social context. It is written to be understandable to students without a background in Pharmacology or Neuroscience or Psychology.
Review
I am using this book to teach an undergrad course on neurochemistry and behavior. Since we are squeezing a semester into 6 weeks, this book (which is fairly concise at just over 400 pages) was good choice. The first 5 chapters are a solid overview of pharmacology, behavior analysis, and the (very) basics of neuroscience. The remainder of the chapters deal with specific drugs (or classes thereof). However, I don't think I would use it to teach a full-term course. The depth is rather uneven, with some chapters barely skirting the surface of some topics and digressions into experimental minutae in others. Also, the drug chapters fall into a very predictable pattern (history, pharmacokinetics, effects on unconditioned behavior, effects on conditioned behavior, self-administration, etc., etc.) which, though I can appreciate it from an organizational standpoint, became very tedious to teach (and read) after the first few.
It definitely isn't the best book ever made, but it does its job: inform. Fine with me.
This book came to me in perfect condition, brand new it seems. I needed this book for a class and although I don't like spending money on text books because they are so expensive and pretty much null and void after the class I need them for, this book was a good value and has come in handy.

This latest edition continues the tradition of better preparing researchers in the basics of pharmacology. With expanded hands-on exercises and the addition of Pharmacokinetics coverage, new human interest material including historical facts in pharmacology and a new section on therapeutics that will help readers identify with diseases and drug treatments. The ideal book for researchers in drug discovery who have seen their role shift from "individual" to "team player" where that team includes chemists, biologists, and others with strong, but varied, science backgrounds who must now work together toward their common pharmacology goal. At GlaxoSmithKline, a pharmaceuticals world-leader, Terry Kenakin regularly teaches a course for their research scientists and has drawn on his experience to create a pharmacology primer. *New - Latest coverage of the chemistry of drugs including expanded coverage of the pharmacokinetic discussion of druglike properties -- Increases reader understanding of necessary ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion) properties and increases the rate of drug approval and acceptance. *Context - Unique discussions on various drug discovery teams and the role of the chemist on those teams -- Promotes the understanding of these expanding roles and responsibilities and how to maximize the effective contributions of each matrix team member. *Real-world learning - There are hands-on exercises, with extensive answers, utilizing real data on structure activity relationships; utilization of pharmacological principles to make general statements about how changes in structure lead to changes in drug activity. + hands on exercises with extensive answers on Pharmacokinetics -- Stengthens practical application and understanding of core concepts and principles.*Study sections are organized with ASPET (American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics)and other international organizations -- Ensures that learning follows professional industry standards.

Now in its new (2009) third edition, Terry Kenakin's Primer in Pharmacology grows in strength and size. Updated from 2006, it is perphaps the most important reference work in the area. Presenting the basic premise(s) of drug action with numerous examples, Dr. Kenakin's pragmatic, lucid and thoughtful writings on phramacology in the era of the genome represent the state of the art in the theory and practice of phramacology in the 21st century. Well written, well presented, this book is essential reading for all those involved (even obliquely) in the discipline of pharmacology.
Dr. Kenakin's book is a well written primer for scientists who already have some familiarity with the topic at hand. It reviews the essentials of pharmacology starting with the basics such as potency, affinity and efficacy and continues with discussions of partial agonists, receptor theory and expression of recombinant receptors in heterologous systems. Each chapter has a short summary and has the derivations of the key equations for those so interested. Excellent resource!
