| Great resource to get ready for the Peds section of the step 2 exam. I was impressed with the depth of discussion on each case that the author somehow managed to trim down to one page. Excellent photos as well. Well-written and definitely very high yield.
Loved this book and the whole series. Great way to review, because this is how the boards are - lots of long clinical vignettes where you have to know not only the diagnosis and treatment, but how to manage it over time. Concise, high yield and easy to understand. Great photos as well. Definitely check this series out.
As a future peds resident, I wanted to do well on the peds boards questions and this book was a big help. The cases are written so you can guess the diagnosis before reading about it on the next page. Well-written with very good explanations and good photos (I finally know what the thumb sign of epiglottitis and an impetigo rash look like!)
;]
Highly recommend. |

| This book is divided into 2 main parts, the first includes cases which are good but their explanations contain many information that are beyond the scope of the exam or are not high yield. The second part is great for the quality of questions it contains, I think these 400 questions cover the main ideas of the exam with a format that looks nearly like that of the USMLE step 2 exam, I reccomend this book for its great questions.
If you were awake during 3rd year of medical school, most of the basics are in your head already. This book is a good case-oriented review of the major topics likely to show up on Step 2. It quickly got me up to speed across all of the different specialties.
I think reviewing cases is the way to go. Books like First Aid are good for step 1 when you are just reviewing lists of facts, but Step 2 requires you to understand how to manage cases. I didn't have a lot of time to study and this book was a good way to review material across all specialties in a short period of time. |

| This book gives you 53 major cases of Obstetrics and Gynecology as one of the Underground Clinical Vignettes series. Obviously, this book alone is not enough to prepare for USMLE Step 2, but the great thing about this book is that it really focus on the disease and keywords that actually appear in the exam (e.g. vaginitis, OCP, amenorrhea, eclampsia etc). You pick up this book, see any of the scenario and if you cannot guess the diagnosis by reading through the history and findings, or any of the highlighted keywords on the scenario is unfamiliar to you, you need to buy this book. If you can, forget about this series, and work on simulated tests. |

| I think every review book I've read (read a lot, I'm paranoid and a slow learner) has some good points and some weaknesses, but this book and series are very good. It taught me to think about the material and explained it in a way that helped my overall understanding, which the boards are [supposed to be] after. I still had to guess on what seemed like a ton of questions and there's always a new twist they can throw in to make a hard question about a topic you thought you knew, but this series prepared me better than I needed to be - I went up 20 points compared to step 1 and think this book had the biggest role to play in my score improvement. What more can you ask for from a review source?
Great series of case-based review - I strongly recommend all the books in this series after using them before my Step 2 exam. Each volume is short and sweet to keep you from freaking out about all the stuff you don't know that you should...
Explanations are precise and written in easy-to-understand language, with difficult concepts and terms always explained or phrased in a way that makes sense. Lots of photos and x-rays that helped with the figures on the test.
If you like case-based reviews (which is how 70% of my exam questions were), this is a great series. Great cases with superb, to-the-point explanations that tell you the high-yield stuff and omit the fluff. Easy to read, lots of pictures and figures, jam packed full of pearls. Definitely check this one out. |

| Know these Vignettes! Nothing more to say. They will be tested over. Period :) Terribly boring subject, but points are points.
Using this review source helped me sleep better before the exam, because I felt ready for the "case-based" style of the boards that everyone kept telling me about. This is a great series, but I don't think it should be used as a stand alone review source. Case-based coverage of topics means that some topics are missed/not covered. However, the topics covered by this volume were very high yield for my exam. Definitely worth the money!
Not a big fan of behavioral science, but this book makes it bearable by focusing on what you'll be tested on and helping you distinguish similar conditions from each other. Good biostatistics section also included. Great information and great figures to help you understand the info. Strongly recommend - the rest of the series is also outstanding. |

This book is small enough to fit in your white coat pocket for those down times on the ward. It is much more concise than Microbiology Made Ridiculously Easy and a much better study tool for Step 1 and Step 2. Microbiology is one of those very important areas of medicine that comes up again and again, regardless of what field you decide to go into. Mastering it is key and you'll get a good grip on it with this book. Very useful.
Great review of all the high-yield bugs in case-based format. Really liked the book's style, presentation, and content. Also has good figures and answer explanations, which helped me understand several important concepts better. Definitely worth the money. |

| I usually dont like this format of books where everything is too dense and compressed but this book changed everything.
The book contains a huge amount of high yield facts many of which i had on my exam.
Very well organized with a great section in pharma' and pathology but kind of weak on physiology.
I read it a couple of times during the months before the exam and in the last week it was my only study source.
All together a great one ,a must have book for anyone taking the first step.
Obviously some of the previous people who have written reviews about first aid are greatly misinformed as how to study for step 1. No one book will cover everything you need to know for the test, that should have learned this over a period of 2 years in medical school.

First Aid does not "claim" to cover it all, all it does is cover very high yield stuff that you really should be taking into the test IN ADDITION to more information.

Do not be fooled, FIRST AID is necessary. Perhaps this is the reason why EVERY medical student taking the USMLE owns at least one edition. This being the case, you are doing yourself great harm by not using a book that everyone is using, especially since this is a standardized exam.
For all foreign doctors, this book is a goal if you want to have short information and help to remind the correct answer in the test. All the Docs must have one. |

| This is an excellent review book in a Question - Answer format. The fact that most books are very close in content if written by the same author(s) is usually the case so let's not waste our time. In terms of reviewing material for Step-exams it has everything you need and more. I would say that a few days is not enough to go thoroughly through all of it, so allow yourself a bit more time and Good Luck!
This is a very good book for a quick review the last days before the exam. In Q&A format, it is intended to jog your memory for high-yield facts, classic symptoms and signs of diseases, and treatment. Few images in the neurology section, some ECGs, several pages with mnemonics in the end of the book.
How come 2 different books and they are the same in the content......
really it is bad book , i ordered this book and Family Practice Board Review (Pearls of Wisdom) and the 2 books are the same , i really wasted my money on this book and the family practice booard review from pearls.
Do not buy this book . |
