It is a very good biochemistry book. All of the concepts are explained very well and in great detail.

This book is advanced, BUT is well written, easy to understand, and has good diagrams.
This is an EXCELLENT book. HIGHLY recommended!

throughout my stay in med school, I never understood why I must be subjected to all those biochemical details. I was aware, of course, that I needed to understand the basic chemical processes that affected the human body, but I couldn't find any reason why my professors would treat medical students as if they were biochem majors. Boy, was I glad when the biochemistry class was over, and I passed the darn course!
I was to meet this same course a few years ago, when I had to sit for the USMLE I. Like a sick child who must swallow a bitter tablet, I reluctantly began to study biochem. Again.
It was a very pleasant surprise that the course was really interesting. I mean, I enjoyed it as much as I did physiology (and I always loved physiology!).
I realized that I came to love biochem because of this book. The authors knew how to give you solid biochemical reasons for those familiar clinical conditions. Contrary to my previous experiences in med school, I found out that biochemistry is indeed a very interesting vourse.
The only (small) problem that you may find with this book is, it could be too detailed at times. However, it covers the USMLE topics quite well. If you have read Kaplan's materials, you'd agree that there are very many similarities. I read both.
If you want to use it for the USMLE I exam, I suggest you first read the specific topics required for the exam. Afterwards, you may then the other areas that are not vital for the exam, if you are interested, and you have the extra time.
I wish I had this book much earlier. It's really nice.

This is a good review book for medical school. It offers great depth and details to the subject of biochemistry albeit it lacks the illustration and color of textbooks. The book is written in an outline form, so reading a chapter of Davidson's Biochemistry can be tedious; but then, there are those who like to study that way

Shipment for this book was fast. didnt worry at all about having my books in time. would use this company again.

if you're interested in adquiring an easy and understandable base about proteins, carbohydrates and fats this book is a must as well as an indipensable start to understand further readings about the metabolism of exercise. The complete explanation about the turnover of proteins, krebs cycle, fatty acids, different roles of celular ARN are so well explained that you don't need to be an expert to understand the basics of this biochemical principles.

This book has helped me stay in line with what my professor is going over. The only draw back is the lack of space on some pages to add in adequate text. overall it is a great product
By: Geoffrey Zubay
ISBN: 0697219003
Publisher: William C Brown Pub
Release Date: June, 1999

This book is dense and annoying. Many of the pictures come straight from Brandon and Toozes' Introdiction to Protein Structure. There are also some typos, for example in the amino acid table (a very important section for all biochem courses) glutamic acid and aspartic acid are given the same structure. Now this can be very confusing to those of us who didn't allready know the proper structures. It also does not cover enzyme mechanisms in as much depth as was needed in my biochem class. All in all I would not give this book a very high rating. Probably any other text would be better.

I have read this book(1st,2nd and 3rd edits).I think it's a valuable book to university student and postgraduate for reference. Thank prof. Zubay.

Zubay's biochemistry text book has long stood as one of the best texts in the market. However, this edition is unusual. Instead of written by several expert contributors, this edition is written mostly by Zubay himself. There are just a few chapters by others. This makes this edition becomes less strong and attracts not too many readers. Still, this textbook illustrates well in the metabolisom sections as well as DNA stuff (replication, transcription , translation and regulation.) You can try this book when you have trouble understanding such topics from other texts. I wish the next edition of this text will retain its beauty by having their bright contributors back. (CD provided is good as well)

In the chapter 2, a number of important pages (50-51, 54-55, 58-59, 62-63, 66-67, 70-71, 74-75, 78-79) is missed / left blank - apparently by the publisher's fault! This is really frustrating - a good book is ruined by a printing mishap!

I've found this book really very helpful. I'm essentially a geneticist/molecular biologist, but with this book I've been able to develop a multistep protocol for affinity purifying my protein of interest. The book is clear and concise, I would highly recommend it.
